LIFE WITH LIAM: COME HOME, LITTLE ONE!

Hello Everyone!

Long time fans and subscribers of mine will remember the first litter of pups. They were afflicted with the Parvo Virus due to the negligence of my little brother, and it took a lot of money (in excess of $3000), and daily care to nurse them back to good health.

Fortunately, my partner is a vet nurse and through perseverance and a little grace we were able to save the entire litter. After they were grown, they were rehomed to what we thought were loving families and we moved on. Sadly, we lost touch with most of the families. But we hoped that they would be cared for and loved. After all, we’d raised them by hand, spent a small fortune, and they were beautiful and robust dogs. Any home should have been happy to have them.

But life rarely works out perfectly.

Of all families, only one set off alarms in my head. A lesbian couple that insisted on taking the smallest female pup in the litter. There were a few warning signs. They were a much older woman, and her partner was in her mid-20s. The other was they were traveling and would be taking the dog back with them after a long walk about.

I was reluctant to pass her over to them, but my wife said it would be fine, and that I was just being bias because they were a lesbian couple instead of a traditional family unit. Rather than arguing the point in front of them, I handed over Little One, the littlest puppy from the first litter. They hugged us, thanked us profusely, and promised to treat her like she was their own daughter.

Hearing that made me feel a bit better about it, but if that is where the story ended there probably wouldn’t be an update about it.

Well, last night while beginning my workday my wife was contacted by my mother with news that a lost dog matching the description of one of our pups had been found. And while she initially misidentified which of the pups it was, when I arrived in person, I confirmed without a shadow of a doubt that it was Little One.

She had been rescued by a nice family, and after speaking with them they told me that they’d found her abandoned by the side of the road tied up. They were initially a little combative, and understandably so given the state of her. But we showed photos and explained we were not the new owners, rather the owners of her parents.

She was craven and skin and bones, clearly on the brink of starvation. I have no idea she’d been ditched out on the backroads of rural Australia, but where she was found was not a town road, or even a road frequented. We believe she was tired up at a bus stop and abandoned, and since no one frequented the area there she stayed until the family passed and so happened to see her there.

She is skeletal and I’m furious at the neglect she has experienced, but she is eating and remembers her basic training. We are going to be worming her tomorrow and she has settled in. She’s still a total sweetheart and full of love and kindness, I am unsure if we will try to find her a new home after she is healthy or if I will just add another member to my dog army.

She’s getting along well with the kids already. We’re going to go to the vet and scan her microchip so we’ll see if the owners ever filed the paperwork to have her transferred into her name, but given the state she is in, I highly doubt it.

Because of her growth was stunted from the parvo, she is a small dog, and this has only been exacerbated by her starvation. Her coat is healthy, but she is missing one of her top K9 teeth, and her bottom K9 is slightly distended from trying to chew through the steel rope she was tied up on. Her top front teeth have had two indentations sawed into them from the wire being pulled back and forth as she tried to chew herself free. We suspect she will need some dental work done, but she does not appear to be in any pain and the damage has already healed. Leading me to suspect that this was, at least, the second time she has been tied up and starved like this.

I am not asking for money or help with vet bills; I just want everyone to know that she is home safe, and I’ll be looking to report the women who purchased her to the proper authorities when she is in better health. She is extremely happy to be home and loved seeing her mum and dad again.

If folks want to see, I’ll upload some photos and video tomorrow. In the meantime, I’ll spend the rest of the night polishing up the write ups for the BIG BANG BOY and the MURDERCYCLE from KAKASHI.

As always, thanks to everyone for your support!

I absolutely despise people who mistreat animals. I hope they get caught and added to all adoption blacklists, animal or not. If it was me in that situation, I would probably remind your lady of this every time she questions your instincts in the future, but I'm an indignant asshole. :P glad the pup is safe and on the mend.

I'll post them tomorrow. They're on the wife's phone currently and its 3am. The dog is sleeping in the bed. She's been washed and is happy. Ill post pictures when she wakes up.

You can’t tug on my heartstrings like that and then not show a photo of the dog. So I definitely want to see a picture of her. If you can afford to keep her, then I’d say just keep her rather than risk putting her through another ordeal like that.
