2026-02-22 11:27:17 +0000 UTCThere’s a great episode of ologies about why dolls are creepy- there’s a theory humans have evolved to interpret anything that looks sort of like a human but not quite to be a corpse, which encouraged us to develop burial traditions to avoid contamination. It basically applies across the whole uncanny valley, and it’s why we don’t find something creepy that looks less like a human but acts like one (ie C3P0) - so basically any time we see a doll it’s just our brain telling us to avoid a dead body, which is very healthy!
