Why did Jake drown? As we all know, on that fateful day, Brian Murphy, Emily Axford, Caldwell Tanner and Jake Hurwits climed inside their above ground swimming pool office to record another episode of NADDPOD. Sadly, that episode would never be heard, as the team of colleagues would be found dead in that very pool. It was a huge blow for the DnD community, as fans everywhere mourned the loss of these brilliant actors, writers and comedians. Their deaths seemed like a tragic accident due to poor decision making, as the electronic devices needed to record their podcast electrified the pool and killed it occupants. However, the autopsies tell a different story. As expected, the cause of death for Murph, Emily and Caldwell was rulled electrocution. But Jake's cause of death was determined to be drowning. This brings the events of the day into question. What really lead to the deaths of these beloved celebrities? I have multiple theories about how and why Jake drowned. 1. It is possible that Jake left the pool to use the bathroom or grab a snack. In that time the pool was electrified and the others died. Jake returned to this horrific sight and with some quick thinking unplugged the electronics. He then dived into the pool in a desperate attempt to save his fallen friends. Unfortunately due to getting tangled in the cables and trapped under the bodies of his friends, or possibly just his own stupidity, Jake's attempt at a heroic deed lead to his own subsequent death. 2. Rather than being the brave hero of our story, that risked (and lost) his life in an attempt to save his friends, perhaps Jake himself was the cause of these untimely deaths. It is possible that Jake was goofing around and drowned. Maybe the rest of the crew had left the pool at this time, or simply hadn't noticed his absence untill it was too late. Panic stricken and scrambling to reach Jake's unconscious body at the bottom of the pool, someone knocked the electronics into the water, electrocuting the team. However, there is an obvious flaw to this theory. Jake is well known for being a strong swimmer, his regular surfing was mentioned multiple times on the podcast. This leads me to my third theory. 3. It wasn't an accident. The team had regularly teased and ridiculed Jake, and it always seemed in good fun, but what if it wasn't? Maybe the "fun ribbing" was a hint to something more incidious happening while the microphones were turned off. Maybe 3/4 of the 2 crew finally snapped and drowned their forth. It'd make more sense than surfer Jake acidently drowning in a pool. But this still leaves the question, how did the rest of the crew get electrocuted? Maybe it was an accident, a mistake made in their post murder craze. Or maybe, realising what they had done and that they would never get away with it, they took their own lives, in order preserve their public image. So, those are my theories regarding the death of the 2 crew. Unfortunately I think the truth of what happened on that fateful day, died with Jake.
