2022-06-03 16:09:14 +0000 UTCI don't understand this arrow thing. There are fletching rules in Xanathar's and rules for recovering arrows in the PHB and they're both reasonably forgiving. Half back if you search the area after a fight and if you have woodcarving tools and proficiency: Craft Arrows. As part of a short rest, you can craft up to five arrows. As part of a long rest, you can craft up to twenty. You must have enough wood on hand to produce them. DnD isn't super well suited to survival campaigns and if you're trying to run one surely you have these kinds of rules on hand

2022-05-29 19:36:09 +0000 UTCIf it’s your typical DnD setting. Why would people in a high fantasy setting know about germs? Germ theory wasn’t a thing until the late 1800s. I mean consider how many people in our modern world don’t know the difference between a bacteria or a virus. And in fantasy settings certain characters have specialized knowledge all the time. Just because I know how to pitch a tent doesn’t mean my sheltered halfling wizard does. But I’m not here to wine about it making me a dumb A because the ranger does know. It makes since that a specialist in organic life (a druid) could have a theory that there are tiny creatures no one can see that control who lives and who dies.

What if there's a twist that... in their fantasy world bacteria turn out to actually not even be real!! What if it's something else entirely! Could be a huge and fun plot point and character moment for the PC, while also not reinforcing the vibe that "they're super genius and everyone else in the party is a moron"

For example, if you’re in Aries country, everything is a desert and it’s scorching hot. If you’re born under a fire sign, you thrive, and then depending on your sign and element, you either thrive, feel neutral or hate it. Theres more but if anyone wants to play let me know.

And, as I run primarily online games, I also use those same pics to create player tokens. The DMs for other games I play in have picked up this habit as well and have started asking for inspiration pics along with our backstories. So now we send character art, hometown art, weapon art, you name it. Pinterest is a gamer / DM gold mine.

Also as far as NPCs go, artwork is typically more attractive than realistic, but I do try to make an effort to pick diverse characters (in looks, scarring, races, gender, etc). It’s an extra effort but appreciated by the party.

They thought disease came from bad smells so of course they'd want to keep themselves clean in order to not get sick. In fact most people bathed regularly. People can know that certain actions have consequences and effects without knowing why. So I think the player should be able to play a character who wants to find out/ prove the "why", with the other players still know what basic hygiene is, just not the fact that it's actually because there's tiny creatures that exist everywhere and can hijack your body's cells in order to reproduce or live in your stomach and help you digest your food etc. (It's not like medieval people didn't think digestion was real before they learned about bacteria) Team Bio fiends! This is a kangaroo court lol

She has us send her pins of what we want for our characters and a note for what part of the image is for our characters. So like, an outfit or accessory, or the hair, etc... Itks fun because if we ever had art done of our characters and NPCs, we have a board full of reference material that's more than "she's an aasimar bard with an ocarina" Highly recommend using Pinterest in your games.

That wouldn't necessarily make them so stupid they'd never be clean but it would leave room for plot lines for this microbiologist to maybe fight a plague or discover the cause of death of an important NPC. Feels like the DM should have had the player's back a little bit here.

Which honestly is a similar concept to having a world with no resurrection. We all know there are spells that bring people back to life, but not in that world. I think it could have been neat.
