Backstory time!! (This is a long comment, sorry)
The movie never tells you some of their stories. This is coming from the illustrated guide that came after the books.
Alice:
Alice and James (the guy who hunted Bella in the first movie) sort of knew each other in the past.
Alice was seeing the future even before she was turned, but it was on a smaller scale, like predicting weather and things of the sort. It caused a lot of people to think she was crazy and for her dad to not like her. The dad didn't like her mom either, killed the mom, and framed it as an accident to be with his mistress.
Alice saw what happened in a vision, and to not be caught, her father sent her to a mental hospital. In those times, the treatments were less than humane. Alice was subject to shock therapy and was kept in a dark room. However, there was a doctor there who took pity on her and became like a protector.
At some point, Alice started to get visions of her death. James was coming for her, and no matter how the doctor, who was also a vampire, thought of ways to save her, he always failed. To prevent Alice from dying, the doctor turned her, and James was so furious that he killed him to make sure Alice had no one to help her.
Alice woke up after turning with no memories of the past because of the shock therapy. This is why she didn't react to James at the baseball game.
We learned in Midnight Sun (book 1 from Edward's perspective) that James vaguely remembered Alice, and that's why he was so intent on killing Bella. He didn't want a repeat of Alice's case.
Carlisle:
He was the son of a priest who was at the head of a vampire hunter party. Carlisle got turned while on the hunt for a vampire, and when his dad found out, he tried to kill him (or told him to kill himself, don't remember clearly).
Carlisle spent a long time trying to die. He starved himself, threw himself down cliffs, and a bunch of other things before finding out he could survive on animal blood.
Carlisle has extreme self restraint, and never had so much as 1 drop of human blood (except when he turned members of his now family) since he was turned into a vampire. This is why, at the end of the first movie, he wasn't the one who tried to suck the venom out of Bella and why he's the one turning the other members of the family.
Esme (Carlisle's mate/wife):
When she was a teen, she broke her leg, and Carlisle was the one who treated her. She had a crush, but Carlisle left shortly after. She wanted to become a teacher, but her father refused, and she instead got married. She thought her husband was a descent man until he started abusing her. She got pregnant and escaped. She became a teacher and then gave birth, but her baby died soon after. She threw herself down a cliff cause she felt like she had nothing left.
Carlisle found her and turned her to become Edward's mother figure. Now, she spends her time being a mother and not going out much, but this is what she loves to do the most.
Emmett:
He was the reckless type as a human. He was a hunter, and Rosalie was the one who found him. He was bloodied and on the verge of dying after being attacked by a bear. She brought him to Carlisle, and they've been together ever since.
Marcus (the bored vampire in the Volturi):
He used to be very lively. He was mated to Aro's sister Didyme. She had the power to make anyone happy, a power Aro didn't really value.
With time, Marcus and Didyme grew tired of the Volturi and wanted to go explore the world together. Aro didn't like that because it would look as if the head of the Volturi were falling apart and would undermine his power and control. On top of that, Marcus has the power to see connections between people and see if the bonds are strong or fragile enough to break and get soneone to join them (this is how Aro knows that Edward and Alice would never leave their family).
To prevent Marcus from leaving, Aro pretented to agree with their decision and that he was happy for them. Then, killed his sister in secret, and got one of the vampires in the guard (we never see her in the movie, but she has the power to influence bonds, breaking them if they are not strong enough or reinforcing them) to force Marcus to be loyal to Aro to prevent him from dying to follow Didyme.
That's why this man looks bored and ready to quit life, half of the time. Usually, when a vampire loses their mate, they try to live long enough to take revenge on who killed their mate. If they can't take revenge, they choose to die.
Jane and Alec (pain girl and the brunette guy that was next to her):
Aro heard about them through stories that were circulating about them. It was said that they were very lucky kids and that those who did them wrong would end up with misfortune happening to them. However, when you were good to them, you would get a lot of good things coming your way.
Aro was keeping watch on them and planning on turning them when they got older. However, with time, the brother-sister duo got accused of being witches and were sent to be burned at the stake. Aro rescued them and turned them, but not before they were already getting burned.
The reason why Jane has the power to inflict pain on people is because when she was burning, she wished she could make others feel the same pain she was feeling. As for Alec, I'm not gonna reveal his powers yet since the movie hasn't done it. Just know that it is related to the fact that when he was burning, he wanted to be able to not feel any pain and to numb himself out.
Bree (child that got killed at the end):
She has her own book, and it details her short life in the army. Basically, the army was kept in the dark about everything. She found some friends and found her mate. However, her mate and her discovered that Riley and Victoria were working with the Volturi and were basically sending them to die. So they planned to run away, but Riley found out and killed her mate. Her friend had the time to escape, but she wanted to wait for her mate. Riley told her that he went to forks before everyone to do some recognition work, so she followed the army instead of escaping. Had she gone to the meeting point, she could've escaped and not died in the movie.
This is about all the backstories for the vampires, so far, I feel are needed, and that weren't said in the movies. I have others, but some aren't here yet, and others need people who aren't here yet.

Fuck yeah. I cannot WAIT until you guys watch breaking dawn part 1 & 2. Absolutely wild shit. Also, Alice's backstory isn't mentioned in the movies, and only slightly mentioned in the books. But the Twilight Illustrated Guide goes into depths. Basically, Alice has visions as a human, and had a vision of her father killing her mother. So the father puts her in an insane asylum. She receives electroshock therapy, which is why she can't remember anything. Theres a vampire that works at the asylum for whatever reason, and he befriends her. Alice has a vision of JAMES from the first twilight movie coming after her to kill her. Turns out Alice's scent is what Bella is to Edward. She tells this Vampire that works at the Asylum, and he turns her to 'save' her. By the time James gets to her, Shes already turned. James kills the worker Vampire, and decides to let her live because he wants to see how savage she becomes with no memories and no guidance. But what he doesn't know is that Alice's visions have amplified and she immediately sees her future with Jasper and the Cullens. So she starts being a vegetarian from the beginning, and just waits until its time to meet Jasper and go find the Cullens. When she meets the Cullens she just walks up to them like, whats up, I know everything about you guys. You're going to love us.
