Is it not like, extremely normal to put DVDs and blue rays on a shelf by your TV?

Everyone’s talking about blue rays but 3 years late I can say how holding your breath for longer works
You don’t change how your body uses oxygen or anything, you just train your body to be okay with higher amounts of carbon dioxide in your blood to keep your body from trying to make you breath automatically.

Congrats on your new bookshelf Murph and Emily! I must respectfully call you a monster for trying to add DVDs to it, Emily, and would love to recommend some books to add to the shelf instead (I’ve read a book for every week of 2020 so far and am drowning in recommendations to give).
1. Circe by Madeleine Miller for character growth and cottage core vibes, and just a new take on an iconic tale, 2. Anne of Green Gables for a cozy nature read, 3. Educated by Tara Westover for a fascinating memoir that will keep you on the edge of your seat and inspire you to overcome the odds, 4. A Man Called Ove for an amusing and heart warming take on the cantankerous old people you come across in life that exasperate you, 5. Perfume by Patrick Suskind for one of the most different and strange books about a murderer you’ll ever read

My brother listens to the show but doesn't have access to the short rest. He asked me after this week's episode if Jake based Henry on his own life because he though he heard something about Jake being divorced on the main feed. I then had to explain the whole inside joke from the short rest about Jake and Jill being divorced and let him know that Jake is doing just fine.

no one commented on the door knob??? Please Caldwell, if the spindle is stripped there is no coming back and you need to get a new doorknob setup from the hardware store. They come in all types, from gorgeous Victorian brass doorknobs to simple "this is just a bathroom" doorknobs. Kits come with all pieces you need to change that death trap into a functional door again. Any room that you have to get someone else to let you out is an absolute fire hazard and extremely unsafe! So get a new doorknob, drill a few holes if you feel like it, and feel super proud of yourself when you go to the bathroom without permission! You can do it!!!

Couple of fun facts from a pharmacology nerd: heroin is an opiate meaning that it is derived from the poppy plant, so y'all are right there. LSD is also derived from lysergic acid, found in the ergot fungus, though I don't think the lysergic acid is from fungus when folks synthesis it these days. Also, ergot itself is psychoactive via ergotamine and other alkaloids. Consuming the fungus isn't going to be a good time though, mania, hallucinations(but not fun ones), violent burning sensations, pain, paralysis, spasms, etc. are all symptoms of its use.

Anytime book recs come up, I have to shout out the works of Connie Willis. Specifically, her Oxford Time Travel series. The whole lot is worth reading, but the final two, Blackout and All Clear, are the single most perfect distillation of true heroism put to page. If you don't want to read something that will make you cry, then try "To Say Nothing of the Dog" instead (a 21st century man trapped in a Victorian comedy of manners).

An Ax/Murph compromise?
Emily, depending on if you want to keep your blu-rays in the original cases or not, I found a 3-ring binder that looks like a book/tome and has plastic sheets to hold discs. I'll send you one. Your movie collection will look like just another(nameless) book on the shelf!

I know that opium and heroine used to be used for menstruation- people would soak their tampons/feminine hygiene in a bunch of in it (and others) and it’d “help the pain”

I will not be desperately praying for a rose for my comment. If one just happened to come about, I wouldn't poo-poo it.

Murph, on my bookshelf, from the DVDs new and used, to the Blu Rays, from fiction softcover to textbook hardcover, the video games, the comic strips and the graphic novels - all are welcome on the shelf! Because ALL my friends, regardless of their format, are good enough to be on the big shelf. And it's easier.

Insane that you are ASHAMED of your movie collection Murph. John Wick Chapter 1, John Wick: Chapter 2, and John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum are just as valid are your dumb Hobbit and Hobbit sequel books

I'm SO down for a sea shanty! My dad brought his piano accordion camping once, and we wrote a sea shanty together! It was so fun!

Part of me wanted to hear Fergus and Hank (Mr. Henry) going blow for blow and unlike the Tavern fight Hank would come out on top!! But when I heard Zirk take that final shot the Dice Goddess had a different story to tell. We had a man who used violence and intimidation to get what he wanted. On the other side of the battle we have Zirk, his opponent, he isn’t physically strong and gets timid at times but he did not falter against this powerhouse of a foe and even ridiculed the man for his bs! The Dice Goddess saw this man and said, “Fuck this guy!” And laid her plan until just the right moment to give Fergus the biggest ‘Fuck you.’ So Fergus didn’t go with a bang but a whimper to a man he saw as inferior. All hail the Conquering Hero, Zonk for Bonk!!!

You let Em display those blurays Murph. Our LotR extended editions sit proudly between their Argonath bookends. Right next to the Terry Pratchett.

also piggybacking off of that, the name “heroin” derives from the german word “heroisch” which means heroic or strong. i’m not sure why they named it that but it was either because a) it was able to make the pain you felt so numb that you felt strong again or b) it was supposed to be your pain relief “hero”

Fun fact heroin is actually a brand name that was sold over the counter by Bayer starting in the late 1800s! It was supposed to be a non-addictive pain medicine lol

You should read The Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follett. My grandmother died before she finished it (because it’s 973 pages) so everyone in the family makes it a point to read it at least once! It’s a very DnD world
