Short Rest: Ep. 57: Frozen Hearts

Comments

Having listened multiple times to this campaign it makes me wonder if Murph ever used those other plot points for moonshine like I wonder what he truly threw out for these characters

KSM101

Damn Caldwell called out CEO obliteration at the end of this ep. Luigi would be proud.

Crumb Gunderson

I absolutely remember being massively disappointed when I was on my first listen-through of this campaign. The kiss was all I wanted them to talk about!

J. Gro

Forgot how dad heavy this campaign was, we got dead dads, strong dads, weak dads, nasty dads. Truly a dad for every occasion

Dr. Eggman

Hardwon will be RETIRED by then right.....

Cooper Erikson

spoilers for campaign 3 This is the SR where they talk about how mishka beverly pawpaw the 2nd will be “some other peoples problem in the future”. Just you wait! ahhhh bahumia is such a satisfying world!

Inez Bangar

Emily's idea for a necromancer wasn't even a necromancer, just a pervert

1man2hands

Beverly's deadly serious, almost menacing "you know where this ends" has to be one of my favorite lines because that delivery was unexpected and masterful. Whenever Caldwell uses the Caldwell voice for Beverly you know it's about to go down

Gracie Kent

Being half High Elf, Moonshine can still go around telling people she's a monster.

Jim Verbick

So I've been binging these short rests and been pressing play on the next episode during the last 10 seconds of the prior episode so the Theme song plays during "rolling with the hit dice" and it's poetic AF

Buff Mustache

Honk if you nasty!

J

I do love when questions get answered! It's nice. Would be cool to have a short segment of like 5 questions and then talk more about how every one felt about the episode. Because these short rests are a peak behind the screen I, as a dm, love hearing what murph is thinking and going through.

Kourtney McCrary

That's a good suggestion, it makes sense and I think a lot of people would agree.

Estevan Diaz

I think maybe doing a Q&A once a Month would be good. That way people who listen irregularly have a chance to ask questions and questions can be more broader over the scope of 4 eps instead of just one, and that'll also weed out questions that get answered in the next ep. I don't know.

M Scott Anderson

Monthly Q&A. Interaction with your crowd is great, you'll have to pry the "ice cream" "Witcher 3 asides" "grill ambitions" and other such gems from my COLD DEAD FINGERS.

MiloSassafras

I actually started liking the short rests just as much, if not more, than the regular episodes because of the banter and relaxed freeform conversation. It always makes me laugh really hard and while the Q&A was super interesting and had great questions the structured format wasn't nearly as fun. I agree with the other commenters that Q&A episodes at the end of arcs would be great. Especially to see what directions the plot almost took along the way.

Allie-Gator

Do q&a all the time!

Mika

Once a month Q&As feels good to me, I think I'd prefer the usual ep discussion / ridiculous tangent of the usual short rests regularly, but doing the last one of a month or something as a Q&A seems like a nice way to interact and get info we might not otherwise. I'm OK with Sunday posting as it gives me another day to look forward to, but i don't feel strongly about it, so whatever is easier for you guys :) My one issue with this ep is that Sunday is the last day of the week (unless that was the joke?). It is the weekEND after all. (actually wasn't the sun created on day 3 or something? I'm not invested in this argument)

Eddie V

i love the Q & A part it was amazing listening to it

Samual brewis

Both are great but banter of meatless Mondays, ice cream, & hemp milk songs are gold.

Jeffrey Steck, Lord of the Fjord

I am torn. I need my short rests right away but the questions are fun. Maybe once a month q&a or maybe patterns get the episodes early and we do q&a.

Eric and Andrea Benoit

I think end-of-arc Q&A short rest is the way to go. I absolutely love how off rails short rest is. Losing the spontaneity of y'all just chatting would be a little bit of a bummer. As for release schedule of short rest, whatever is best with everyone's schedule. If it's Sunday, that would be cool! We'll get used to whatever makes life a little easier on the four of you. Thanks so much for the freakin' show.

Ryan Vieira

Once a month Q&A would be nice. love getting the pull back. But regular short rest should just be ya'll reacting to Murph's torments.

Brian Jones

I‘m in favor for the usual thursday banter short rest. Firstly because I don‘t wanna wait and secondly because I‘m still waiting for the update if Emily did or did not get that bbq grill

Saru

I think regardless of the format, we’re all gunna keep listening. It’s entertaining either way. Good work as usual yall

JBeev

This is for Emily. Instead of "high-halfie", I think you should refer to yourself as a "high-brid" (like hybrid) lol. Thanks for all the good laughs!!!

Caitlin W

I think I fall in the camp that the Q&A this week was really great, but would also miss the more freeform discussion that comes with having no more structure than Roses and Thorns at the end. If I were the coy little king of this podcast, I would probably decree there be a Q&A Short Rest at the beginning, approximate middle and just before the "final boss" for the arc, in addition to an end-of-arc wrapup. But, being neither coy nor a king, I'll still be happy with whatever direction you all take these, because the worst they get is "really good" regardless of format. Every other DVD commentary or after-show sort of thing I've seen could do with taking notes from Short Rest.

ChicaQueenVixenStyle

Don't change the release days of short rest. If people want it on Sunday, just wait till Sunday to listen to it. I also prefer the original format with maybe a Q&A st the end of a arc..

Josh Meier

I personally enjoy the short rest just how they are, I like here you guys just talk about your thoughts, i really do enjoy the Q&A but I’d rather just have some really thick mixed bags for that

Jordon Abbe

I definitely prefer the original format because it feels like y'all aren't as rushed for time to talk about roses & thorns and engage in the banter we've all come to know and love. Several people have mentioned the idea of doing an extra long short rest at the end of an arc where we get to ask questions, or more q&a eps, and I like that idea better.

DungeonMama

This is 100% better version of the short rest plz daddy more

Petmygoldfish

I'm all for the delayed Short Rest. Answering questions from us fans gives a sense of interaction as well as the timing gives me personally something to look forward to on mondays 😂 (I listen while at work, so I save any weekend release for Monday) Anyway, great show and great short rest guys! 😁

Daniel Green

I like the separation to Sunday so we can spread out the content, but I agree with those above who say they like the more free form sode where you guys just talk

Cody Martel

I assumed that he would be playing an awakened chimmermunk.

James Lloyd

This was pretty good but 100% prefer just you guys talking about the episode vs just answering questions. Maybe a question of the week for us Patreon users like whichever one y’all like the most or whatever one we ❤️ the most.

Alex

please daddy Murphy more Sunday Short Rests! it was really nice to have a Sunday SR to balance out the weekly wait for a new ep

Tommy McGlone

I was thinking that Moonshine was like somebody who went on a gap year to have some fun and escape any responsibilities in the Crick. But she found purpose when she found Bev and Hardwon and started to quest with them. Similar to when I found purpose and friends when I started university and discovered a passion for studying genetics. But then I also got me thinking the fact that Moonshine is a very young elf to have gone out all by herself. Which makes me think that Moonshine was actually a child prodigy in the Crick. Perhaps this is because she is the child of a Crick elf and a High elf. Hybrid vigor is something seen in nature. Assuming that Crick elves are inbred, this outcrossing might have helped Moonshine.

James Lloyd

I like the idea of getting one or two really good questions from the audience but I love the whacky direction the short rests go when you guys don’t have set question to follow.

Cameron McEwan

I liked the Q&A episode but I think I prefer the regular short rest episode format. After all, I don't think a Q&A episode we would have got anything as amazing as the spoon vs fork debate.

James Lloyd

Also thanks for answering my question!!

Kestrel

I'm gonna second everyone saying maybe having Q&A based short rests at the end of arcs! I really love the most relaxed style of them now (and I love being able to listen immediately after episodes lol) but this was really cool for plot/character-heavy stuff

Kestrel

Please keep this format, it works really well!! I love the idea of a short rest later in the week - I would usually listen to both casts back-to-back but prefer would prefer having a new one every half week (just so it feels like I'm not waiting as ling between eps. Can't get enough of you folks). The questions work great too!! Please keep doing Short Rests like this!!

Micah Edmonds

Oooo I like this idea

Jacq Attack

I'm gonna agree that free format short rest is way more entertaining to listen but maybe-just like someone else suggested-you can do one/two "Question of the Week" about the episode at the end of it so both elements are intact.

Yura

You guys do a pretty good job at asking questions during the short rest BUT I have questions every week!! I'd love to wait a day or 2 for the short rest so I ask questions

Matthew Leonard

Oof. No one talked about the Hardshine kisses and what that meant for their characters

ayahiraya

A single “Question of the Week” (or two) would be nice for the short rest. Also, cast Speak with Animals to find out what Paw Paw saw!

David Donnel

I like the free format short rest better with the players and Murph just sharing whatever they thought about during the session and other random anecdotes about being a real life human being. Maybe the QnA could be the short rest after every arc instead? I think it would be meatier and would have less "can't answer that potential spoiler for this arc"

ayahiraya

I like the questions but wouldn't want them every week. (Or maybe like a few each week, room for both things?) I like the banter and side conversation too much too entirely give it up.

Amy Martin

I love both formats

Julio Fuentes

Thanks for answering my question! Absolutely made my week! I think this format would be good once in a while, but I absolutely love the zaniness and randomness of normal short rest that I wouldn’t want to give it up

Amy Beery

1.) The joy of everyone loving to my silly name and Emily's reaction to my counterspell question makes me think the occasional short rest, after a big-important 'sode, would be great (depending on scheduling) Fun Fact: I mentioned in my question that my PC's wanted to kill me with Nannerflies when I first Counterspelled them...the person that wanted to kill me the most was our Gnome Wizard who happens to be my wife...s0 this 'sode really hit home for me.

All Pulp! No Juice!

You guys haven't had a guest in a long time. When is Amir coming to play an astronaut goblin accountant from outer space?

Goni Matzliach

I forgot about hemp milk 😂 I need to go back and listen to that!

Miriam

I enjoyed the short rest so much! I like both formats - the usual short rest is a lot wackier but I enjoyed the listener interaction of this one and wouldn't mind waiting longer for it. However whatever is easiest for you! Maybe the last short rest episode of an arc could incorporate listener questions?

Miriam

Most anticipated Short Rest ever! And you answered my question too, thank you! I don't know how I feel about this format for the future, it does definitely streamline the discussion, but I feel like I would miss the random banter about hemp milk and such if you always did it this way. Maybe you could do it for extra thicc RP-heavy sodes like this one every once in a while?

Josnak

I'd be okay with the short rest on its own release day. If it's easier on you guys, it's fun to get new stuff more than just Thursdays. Yawl do you!!!

BlurryVizion

I actually really like doing the short rest this way. More sunday casts please

Will Brannon

may the baba yaga not take you this night!

jorts mclastname

I would be in favor of a Sunday short rest. More even distribution instead of binging.

David Donnel

May bahamut keep you

jacket22

Pelor be praised!

Chris Frampton

Perfect timing! Just finished this week's episode! 😭💙

Devin

Phew!! I thought y'all forgot!
