Short Rest: Ep. 53: Escape From Old Court Castle

Comments

Vader - “No… I am your father, dumbass.”

Bryce Peterson

At our table we use sweets for the bad guys so when someone kills an enemy they get a treat.

Jigsaw

Emily and Caldwell where both raised on the dog training method. It makes so much sense.

Cooper Erikson

hello from intro no more 2024! Relistening to this really is so special. Fuck dem birds. I do think jake is right and we should get a release of fat trimmed, like the filthy guppy cut

Shel B Kennas 1st fav sprite girl! Torn between never wanting Skaldova to end and excitement for Duncle + Triplets to return

This ep made me try to remember how I was kept in line as a child, I got what my parents called “the taste” which was just straight up vinegar. Now I gag every time something tastes or smells too strongly of vinegar. I couldn’t figure out why I hated it until this very moment

Ashton R

in middle school my dad said he'd upgrade my phone if i got on honor roll and i was always one letter grade off until the last quarter of 8th grade.

Fiona Dowell

The first like month of freshman year of college, I had to help a girl get her industrial bar piercing out with pliers and shit and that was narsty

1man2hands

See I knew people whose parents paid them for A's but my parents just expected them

1man2hands

So Emily understands that Alexa is bad and creepy but still has one though...

1man2hands

Super late here but I relate so hard to Jake's Connecticut parent stories I'm freaking crying. "Jennifer gets money for a good report card!!!" "Well Jennifer's family isn't poor lol" #FairfieldCountyProbs

Meghan Jerrild

Lactose intolerant, but I don't remember anytime cream cheese has ever caused a problem. I eat philadelphia rolls (raw salmon style) pretty often, enjoy crab rangoon, and love cheesecake and cream cheese on bagels(though it's been years for the last two).

Chatoyer Huggins

To further elaborate, the legendary heros Theala, Alanis, and Ulfgar are the members of the "original" campaign to save the world, which happened before these adventures.

Jack McAlevey

Hey new Naddpole :D Welcome to the 2 crew! To answer your question, there was no actual first campaign per say. This is reference to the setup for the show which is based in a world which has already seen a crew of adventurers rise up and banish a great evil (just like in any DnD campaign), and so those first heroes were the party in a first DnD campaign, and this show takes place in the world they left behind. Morally grey and distraught. Therefore, this is a campaign set after that 'campaign'. Hope that makes sense. Glad to see you on board :)

Connor Proudfoot

This keeps getting called "the campaign after the campaign " what is the first campaign called? Sorry, new to the cast.

Andrew Oathout

I saw this and instantly thought of moonshine. I didn’t know she had released a perfume range. https://i.imgur.com/yduVyLP.jpg

Ross McDonald

At the very least he's mentioned it on If I Were You!

Maria Manchester

I had the same problem in school, Caldwell, don’t you worry. They used to make us compete to see who could answer the maths question fastest, it was mortifying!

Emily

I do agree with both of you lol. It's such a hard line to walk. I do feel like they've been a bit off topic more recently and as a newer DM I find the on topic stuff SUPER helpful... But I also do love all the jokes and they still make me laugh even when it's off topic... So it's kind of a double edged blade for sure. I think you definitely need both and finding a good middle ground isn't always easy.

BlurryVizion

I can see that, but I love when they get off topic and just sort of goof around with not so serious topics. Mainly because it reminds me of their 8 bit book club podcast (which i loved and was sad to see go) but also because sometimes the main episodes can be such an informational overload. Personally, I need these breaks to just listen and enjoy the conversation without having to focus super hard you know?

Tye De Yoe

If any of you are like me, and got an extreme craving for lucky charms from this short rest, but are also vegetarian or vegan, I just found out that a company called Sweet and Sara makes vegan dried cereal marshmallows. And now I am going to order some as soon as they're back in stock, in honor of Emily.

Crankysister

I'm having a great time with the pod, but I think there was more cereal talk than D&D talk this Short Rest, which is a shame because I love the characters and the setting. Murph puts a ton of work into his campaign and when he gives us peeks behind the screen it's really awesome. As a much less experienced DM I love it when they focus on their choices and characters. The off-topic talk has been outpacing on-topic talk on the Short Rest the last several weeks, as a patron it kinda bums me out :(

Muscles Dynamite

Caldwell said next week. They've been traveling a lot and it's been difficult. Also, the Trinyvale eps will no longer be videos for now.

BlurryVizion

Yeah you will!

Hunter Hughes

When are we getting another Trinyvale ep?

Will Brannon

One time I was at an airbnb in Portland, Maine with some friends. It had an Alexa and we were using it for music, since the host left us a note saying we could do so. I was pretty jazzed about htat since I had never used one before. So after a few drinks I decide to say, "Alexa! Add a dildo to the shopping cart!" We all crack up, and it responds, "OK, adding a *bleeeep* to the shopping cart". We're stunned for a second, burst into laughter, and then assume we're going to get a bad review. The host actually gave us high marks and said we were great guests, that dudes got a good sense of humor

PJ

Okay so hear me out right, you take the one billion grills. These are some bitchin’ grills, you know they’re good quality because you wished them into existence. And you’d better believe they’re flatpacked so well you make ikea go back to the drawing board. You get a warehouse to store them. You start selling them at just low enough price that the competition all dies out. Eventually you have a global monopoly on grills. But people are happy because they’re some seriously good quality grills. You hire some people to look after the sales and logistics, now you don’t actively have to be dealing with the grills yourself. You can sit back and let the money roll in. You might be thinking “but there’s a BILLION of them!” Think about it, that’s only 1 in 7 people globally owning your grill. If you’re the only grill seller globally, that’s not too crazy to consider. And you can be patient anyway, there’s no rush to sell the grills. The grills that get used will start breaking down eventually and need replacing, and guess who can replace them? That’s right, your grill empire. A million dollars is nice, but a billion grills will setup not just yourself but your great, great grandkids for life.

Cameron McEwan

Yesss I was thinking that Jake sounded just like niyak the whole milk bit. I was waiting for someone to say it. Love that voice

Taylor Roberts

Jake has absolutely talked about his gross college piercings on the pod before lmao

Diana

I have a homebrew rule where if you roll two nat 20's while you have advantage you gain a "Fate Point" which is a nat 20 you get to keep in your back pocket for a rainy day. My players have used fate points for some insane things, but when I get floored by a player going "I use my fate point to shoot the arc-villain off his horse from 600 feet away with this ballista" it always feels like it was earned.

Bea Munro

I am playing the hell out of that grocery store monopoly game

Wyatt

This shortrest has a truth we brushed past! An amazing mixed bag would be all the extra blooper jokes you edit out or funny moments that dont make it into show

Micheal Herzer

That Lucky Charms story from Emily was heartbreaking but I'm crying laughing

Joshua Steiner

Been meaning to do that soon! I was super happy the short rests were available retroactively.. i havent heard them all but each end of saga ep i checked out.

Daniel Hynes

This was definitely a thick, frothy short rest! We found out Emily is a cat, Caldwell was "that kid", Jake has an extreme metal allergy, and yes... If you have the $10 to spare, just buy at least 1 month of the tier and power through the "Mixed Bags." They're always so great! #TeamGrillionaire
