Story Concept

Just pitching the idea:

A Light Novel style 'harem' story... BUT...

Which deals with the actual emotional lives of the characters involved, the consequences of a group of people sharing a life all centered around their affections towards one person.  The jealousy and envy, the heartbreak, the common bonds, the fear of betrayal or it's actual occurrence.

As I'm sure most of you know, I've long held an interest in biblical history, mythology, and a few other areas that pertain to human life and culture in particular.  One of the things I've noticed is that even in cultures where harems exist, those are chaotic environments in the best of times.  All the biblical patriarchs who held harems, also had profound problems because of it.  From David and Abraham, to Zeus and his dalliances.  In anime and light novels the entire harem concept is all but identical.  You have one main interest and everyone else is a one note joke or a distraction with bouncy boobs.

If I were to write a story that dealt with this in a more realistic fashion, even if it were in a universe of magic and gods and spirits and so on...

What would you think?  (Just spitballing for now, don't even have an outline yet)

(Note: This would be AFTER all 'God Rising' materials are complete and without taking away from 'Scales of Trust' as you know, I can easily handle more than one story at a time)

Comments

Of course! For example a royal who marries several princesses from surrounding nations, creating a weaving pattern of differing loyalties.

would definitely give it a try and might be fun for you to try new things!

I feel like if it were to delve heavily into the politics of the relationship but also maybe politics of governance or money making to lead to intrigue that would be interesting also

Well since I haven't even done an 'outline' yet, it is hard to say, I'll draw up some concepts around it, but if I had to go with my gut on the spot, it would be a kind of fantasy world conspiracy story, with a heavy part of the story pertaining to the politics of the harem and the way in which the women's relationships impact the outcomes of events.
