Hello everyone, I made these animated cycle some times ago but without much explanations on them, now I can put some to help you to see how a cycle can work and many ways you can put to make it works better.
First, in general when you make a cycle, chose a multiple number of 2 (2, 4, 6, 12, 24, 40 etc ...) to make a perfect step to step walk (3, 7, 19; 23 etc numbers are for a different type of walk, for exemple a character who limp).
Then separate this number in 2 and make your two side cycles (then you can even separate them in 4 or 8 later (running cycle)
The running cycle can be done in many ways too, I chose to do 16 frames for each but on the 3 exemples I can: Go slowly (16 frames), accelerate (16 frames/24 FPS) or accelerate using more steps (16 frames/ 4 frames= 1 step)
You can go forward OR put a timing, let me explain. The timing give more life to an action like walking, also it looks better in some situation, forward is all frames by frames without multiple same frames on the animations.
To do a timing it's simple, just take a frame and add it again, so the two or three same frames will follow each others and give the effect of the timing, in general change the pace of your animation or the effect will be too big and slow and will disturb our eyes !
One cycle with 8 frames is nice, less is good, more can give a slow pace but after it depends of how you put your FPS :)
Well I hope all of this will helps you, If you have any questions feel free to ask them!
Thank you all for your support !
Another Special patrons tuto will come soon!
