23. Kids Murdering Kids: Derrick Joseph Robie

Comments

This is the part that I struggle with so much! These kids do cry out for help…& sometimes those cries may not be as obvious as them saying they feel the need to hurt, kids don’t always know how to interpret or even voice their emotions!!!!! That’s why it’s sooo important for adults to listen, be aware, & take action!!!

Hi Payton, First of all thank you for doing this story & others like it! As hard as they are to hear they need to be told for the victims & you do such a good job with this!!! I recently worked with an 11 year old girl who was diagnosed with Intermittent Explosive Disorder!! I had never heard of it in all my years working with special needs children! Her moods & outbursts were very sporadic! She was the nicest little girl until something set her off & then look out! & that something could be as small as her losing a pencil!! Although I saw some progress while working with her I still worry that someday I will hear a story like this about her!! The thing is, everyone knows there are problems but they don’t seem to do much to help! They just want to get her through the system and out of their hands to the next person to deal with!! I’m not sure how I feel about Eric being released, but I feel that his situation was a lot of the same as I see when working with children! There are all the signs, but no one takes the initiative to do something about it!! Our mental health system needs an overhaul…. Especially when it comes to children!! Thank you again for doing these hard cases, it’s important that these victims get the honor they deserve but I feel it’s also important to hear the perp’s story too so we can learn from it!! I wish everyone would listen, so they can see that these signs, especially in children should not be overlooked!!!! No action should be overlooked as “just a phase” or “just a kid being a kid”! These are cries for help & we all need to listen & be aware so we can get them help before these nightmare situations come true for any other children/ human beings!!! RIP sweet little Derrick 💔

This is such a hard case, you have a beautiful baby boy who’s life was taken away so unfairly. But then another young boy who was suffering psychological problems and abuse. Does it excuse his actions? Absolutely not. But it gives us a reason to better understand his actions. I think a part of justice is change and reform, I truly hope he has changed and got the help he needed and all his words aren’t just lies. If he’s telling the truth, I think he has done a lot of time away and he deserves a chance if he’s truly changed like he says he has.

I think that the justice system has its flaws but this is an example of the reform it’s meant to provide. I know I’m not the same person I was when I was 13. I didn’t do anything this drastic but he got help. He worked through his baggage and matured. I think there’s hope for everyone and I pray he’s telling the truth.

I knew the family of this victim. Nobody got out of that situation without severe pain. Both families. I remember the boy that did the crime was unwell and nobody knew what/how to deal at the time. They charged him as an adult as well.

I truly don't know how to feel about this case. It's hard because we have to trust his word and how he portrayed himself in prison. I've seen this case a while back but I didn't think he would make parol. I don't think there is a justifiable explanation for what he did and no way of truly knowing if he has been magically healed unless he is out in society. Hi! My name is Princess and I've been watching your podcast MWMH for about 2 years now. Unfortunately, I have a medical disability that keeps me in the hospital, and I watch your videos while I'm in the hospital to keep myself occupied and try not to think about what I am going through in the hospital. Thank you so much for your content and keep moving up!

There is a case similar about a kid from Grand Rapids Mi, but the poor kid was suffering from some severe mental problems and had told adults he wanted to hurt someone. Totally breaks my heart.

Omg. I listened to this case years ago on a YouYube series. So sad
