can you guys please do solar power before summers over im begging

izzy flaherty

Yeah incase you forgot!!! 😅🙏🏻

Grace Abelita

I’m so excited for your future reactions. I could never choose between Lorde’s albums or rank them but in terms of lyrical maturity Solar Power hits me the hardest. Her first two albums have a lot of angst/edginess because they of course depict the experiences she had as a teenager. SP is more of a reflection on those times & how much she grew so it’s a very healing listening experience if you can relate to the topics.

Anthony

Also watch the music video. Something you need to see at least once. That’s all I’ll say. Haha

Josh

It has definitely grown on me since especially when playing the album in full, which i'm not surprised by. I had a feeling it would

Michael

Also, Joel Little produced Taylor Swift’s album “Lover,” which you guys still need to listen to.

Josh

I’m gonna fight you on Tennis Court. Such a good opening track that describes a life that is changing right in front of her as she enters the music industry. “How can I fuck with the fun again when I’m known?” Considering her ascent into fame, this line is quite prescient, doubly so when you consider her retreating away from society between albums. The tennis court is essentially her hometown, Auckland. I think you let your expectation become resentment, which is easy to do when you hear Melodrama first. So let’s go down to the tennis court and talk it up. lol

Josh

love this! yall rly gotta check out chappell roans debut album! shes opening for olivia rodrigo, shes an up and coming pop star

Dita Rab

Oh I’m so glad you got into this one, especially after loving Melodrama so much (my favorite video from y’all so far, to be honest)! I think you’ll both really vibe with Solar Power. It’s a constant repeat for me. Also I’m not sure if you’ve checked out any Maggie Rogers, but I would highly recommend her, especially her first album Heard It In A Past Life. Talk about vocals and interesting production!

Hollis

You guys need to do Melanie Martinez discography in order!

Dayton Culp

Yall….. lorde is the youngest artists ever to earn a Grammy and she won it for royals in her debut album. Lorde is huge here. She is a superstar just like Beyoncé or Ariana Grande or Billie Eilish. The difference is whenever she’s not promoting music she goes home to New Zealand, and she disappears from our view. Out of sight out of mind. While everyone else you named lives here so we’re constantly bombarded with them. If you listen to Solar Power, Lordes 3rd album, you’ll understand.

Dayton Culp

Loved your reactions to Pure Heroine! One of my favorite albums of that year! Please react to Noah Kahan - Stick Season (We’ll all be here forever) not only does this song have great songwriting and storytelling but it’s one of those albums with an overall theme. it’s a no skip album! Would LOVE to see a reaction to this!

J

Pleaseeee listen to emails i cant send fwd: by Sabrina Carpenter

reem Tarig

I would love to see a reaction to Renee Rapp. She has an ep and her debut album out. Gorgeous vocals and r&b influences.

solar power

Manuela

Yes!! All of these

Kate

This album is NOSTALGIA is its truest form. Not only because of when it came out (and what it was compared to other music) but the topics of youth in not a cheesy way. As you said it has “haunting” sound but never gets boring and has proven to be timeless. Ribs is literally one of the best songs ever and instantly gives me goosebumps every time. I can’t remember who posted it but on YouTube a guy did a video essay on it, and it perfectly describes the feeling of the song. So glad you guys did this!

anna dailey

loved this! you guys should also listen to The Love Club EP, her soundtrack for the Hunger Games and also her feature with Disclosure's "Magnets"

Lorenzo Consonni

please don’t make us wait too long for solar power 💔

alan

YAAASSSS

alan

Can you react to Marina? Her album Electra heart is absolutely amazing and was a major hit. I think you will like her song and lyrics.

hani kanso

I really love this album!!

hani kanso

been rewatching the team reaction over and over again 🤣

berny

I’m so glad you guys listened and enjoyed this album! The maturity of her lyricism is remarkable and I think she is so skilled at editing her work so that every song and every lyric serve a purpose. Lorde doesn’t do many interviews but she periodically posts letters to her fans on social media. One of my favorites is what she posted the night before her 20th birthday. It was sort of closing the door on one chapter, and hinting at the existence of Melodrama. The way she talked about teenage years really could have been the thesis of a song: “I was 16 when most of us met. Can you believe it? I laugh thinking about that me now – that glossy idiot god, princess of her childhood streets, handmade and ugly and sure of herself. All my life I’ve been obsessed with adolescence, drunk on it. Even when I was little, I knew that teenagers sparkled. I knew they knew something children didn’t know, and adults ended up forgetting.” The full letter: https://amp.theguardian.com/music/2016/nov/08/lordes-letter-in-full-the-party-is-about-to-start-i-am-about-to-show-you-the-new-world

laura

Solar Power is a must after this

Lewis Roe

this album literally made me the person i am today

cherry

There is also a Love Club EP that she has, that came out a bit earlier than the album. Royals was actually released first as a part of this ep with four extra songs!

Artsiom Kudrautsau

You have to listen her last album Solar Power !

Daniel Marecos Esquivel

Because you like Lorde, I really think you'd also like Ruelle

mccdreamys

buzzcut season might be my favorite of hers

mccdreamys

Yesss so glad you guys liked it. This was one of the BLUEPRINT albums for the young alt/blog scene of the 2010s. It truly was a new sound for us and remains one of my favorite no skip albums to this day. Would love to see you react to other popular albums from that time (ex. Ultraviolence and Born To Die by Lana, AM by Arctic Monkeys, The 1975 self titled)

Olivia S

I’m DAMN sure y’all would love to listen to Jessie ware!! She’s doing modern nu-disco / dance music like nobody else! I think y’all should definitely check out her album ,,What’s your pleasure: The platinum edition’’! In my opinion she’s our generations Donna Summer!

Simon Brändle

your lorde reactions have been my favorite reactions that you’ve done. she’s my favorite artist of all time. she definitely doesn’t get the recognition she deserves and you guys really get her and her music <3 love it

izzy flaherty

Also I’m a 31 year old. Ribs and A World Alone still make me cry.

Here to provide loads of context! Loved listening to you two listen to this. I was interning at an indie label in the months before this album was released. The buzz was WILD. Her first EP got big on soundcloud/the blog scene (back when that was a thing) and every label was kicking themselves for not signing her sooner and I’m sure they all tried. If I recall correctly, the label she ended up signing to found her at a local talent show years prior and had her on lock for a while. But yes, we all knew she was gonna blow up. The things everyone found so impressive were her songwriting chops for such a young age and the cool production she was willing to work with - it was compared to hip hop with the 808s and some minimal electronic styles. I remember Kanye comparisons production-wise since this was around the Yeezus era. (and I think they did ultimately work together on a song - a cover or remix) Your dad nailed the goth comparisons too. Look up photos of her back then too. It was a definite influence on her aesthetic. I believe there is a deluxe version that includes all the songs from her first EP! Not sure if it’s react-worthy but those songs are a fun listen to see how she got here. I personally love Bravado and there was a remix big on soundcloud back when I first found her by fffrrrannno (I looked it up and I’m still not sure I spelled it right).

Annette House

I think Lorde was close to Billie big in her height, but you're right that social media is a huge part of Billie's breakthrough. This album was nominated fora grammy and she won two for melodrama. Taylor also pretty publicly took her under her wing and I'm pretty sure they are still supportive friends though we haven't seen them together in a while. Maybe more young people connected with billie I think whereas Lorde is massive to millennials who are older than her lol. also after Melodrama she kind of retreated to New Zealand probably for life balance reasons and wanting to live some life before the next album then covid prolonged it likely. Her third album was not quite as well received. mainly because of the vibe and not because she lost her talent. I'm really excited to see what's album #4, because I'm admittedly in the camp that thought her attempted irony on Solar Power wasn't quite working. That said, there are tracks I LOVE on the album. Def looking forward to your reaction to it.

Molly C

This was the first album that I ever loved front to back, it was such a pleasure seeing you guys experience it for the first time ✨ There are deluxe tracks actually! Before this album, Lorde released a 5 track EP (The Love Club) which featured Royals. The deluxe version of Pure Heroine featured the EP tracks, as well as a cover of "Swinging Party" by The Replacements. I highly recommend checking them out.

Hayden Smith

I would kill to listen to Ribs and Buzzcut season again for the first time lol. Can't wait to watch this

Molly C

This album is amazing. The first line of the first song is ‘don’t you think it’s boring how people talk?’ and the album’s last line is ‘let them talk’. Genius. And she was so young when she did this it’s just mind blowing. Hope you guys also do Solar Power. Such mixed reviews (especially after Melodrama) but still such a great album!

alwayscarolina

papa mike singing along to royals: precious.

Emilie

Yes!!! Glad you’re continuing with Lorde! She’s such an amazing and constantly evolving artist!

Elena Rubio
