Taylor Swift - Midnights Till Dawn

Taylor Swift - Midnights Till Dawn

Comments

Hello! Love your videos :) Re: Glitch - I became a Taylor stan after Folklore, which might tell you a bit about the music I normally listen to, but Glitch is one of my top 5 songs! It's so fkn catchy, I love the harmonies and the syncopation. I think it is highly underrated! I also never used to listen to country music yet here I am jamming out to Picture to Burn in the shower on the reg lol. Taylor is expanding all our music tastes haha.

JJ

Sabrina Carpenter has been the opening act for the Eras Tour. Please react to emails I can’t send fwd:

reem Tarig

I am so happy you took the time and did these! I am 49 and was not a Taylor fan until Folklore, because the pop hits on the radio just never spoke to me. I love Midnights because it is a mature woman writing and singing. I agree with Mike, that this type of growth will continue to earn her new fans. Thank you so much for the great videos!

Kate Ayotte

I haven’t listened to midnights in a long time and watching this reminded me how much I love it. I would LOVE for you two to react to the Miss Americana documentary.

Cassie Olson

Loved this!!!!! The back half is my fav too, the Great War, glitch, hits different, high infidelity, dear reader - all my favs!!! In You’re Losing Me, it’s her actual heart beat driving this song.

Camille Platts-McPharlin

Agree!!! One of my favorite albums! You need to do the deluxe version!

Melissa

Dad loving The Great War and understanding it made me love you both even more

Mikayla Gilkerson

I know I’m a couple days late but once I noticed it posted, I clicked so fast 😩 thanks for doing the reaction, enjoyed watching it as always! ❤️ the next time you wanna do another Taylor album I would suggest Fearless (Taylor’s Version) & another video could be you going back over bonus tracks that you missed (safe & sound, eyes open & all too well sad girl autumn version from red, the lakes, the lakes original version and cardigan cabin in candlelight version from folklore, willow all the witch versions, it’s time to go & right where you left me from evermore, anti-hero acoustic & lavender haze acoustic from midnights plus miscellaneous singles like carolina & the joker and the queen w ed Sheeran)

Cyd

Right? Really shows the complete disconnect in experience, every woman I know feels this line and connects so deeply to it but men it’s just another line of words. Could you imagine NOT living with the pain of that feeling? Wild

Mandi Bullard

Even Taylor is not considered as a country artist anymore, her writing style is country to the core, the keen eyes for little details, mining unfamiliar depth among familiar stereotypes, that's what good country music does, and Taylor brought that songwriting style into mainstream pop with more intimate storytelling, and that has influenced and inspired a new generation of songwriters. Speaking of country, this genre has generated quite a few amazing female singer/songwriters in 21st century, except Taylor, most of them didn't get enough spins on radio, which led to a fact that these female artists lean more to the artistic side, crafting great songs and lyrics, staying true to themselves and just like Taylor, the songs all came from their real life experience, here are some recommended albums, it would be great to see any of them reviewed on your channel. =) MIranda Lambert - the Weight of these Wings (regarded as one of the best divorce albums, it's also a double-album, a rare act from a female country artist) Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour (which is already on your channel) Brandy Clark - 12 Stories Ashley Monroe - Like a Rose Pistol Annies - Interstate Gospel Maren Morris - Hero

Felix

Loved your reaction as always. So cool that you mentioned Loreley, just a small fun fact about the historical Loreley, which is known - at least where I’m from - as a sort of siren sitting on top of a hill next to the river rhine, combing her hair and singing, thus distracting and enchanting the sailors with her voice and beauty so they would crash on the rocks

Anna28

i am heading into year sixty four and imo taylor just is, the voice of her generations. the lyric just reach each and every one. her gift her jewel. imo right up with joni, carol, bob dylan, paul ,stevie ,paul simon, sting etc. again imo.

Mark Barnwell

I still can't believe she let us bully her into a more Lana version

T

It's like a 90s jam, reminds me of torn by natalie Imbruglia. Concerning things happen when aaron AND JAck produce on the same song....

T

Satisying! In swooping sloping cursive letters💌 Fearless next🫶

T

I’m so pleased you guys loved Glitch! It’s a standout for me, but seems polarizing amongst fellow Swifties.

Kelsie Brake

And to add something, we love a good pop song. But Taylor Swift is not a "hit single" writer she is an album writer. Her albums are hits. Not her songs. ;)

Justyna

WCS is a very veryy "woman" song. When my mother heard it for a first time( she is Taylor fan because of me, sorry not sorry) she cried. How can yoy regret someone all the time? Even if you had a relationship that wasn't good, you still have some good memories. And you learn from it. But that song is just regret and pain. And rage.

Justyna

Also not saying this is true but with my interpretation I think of 3AM edition being like your 3AM thoughts are deeper than your Midnight thoughts that’s just my interpretation on why these are so much deeper than the original 13

Jamie

Haven't finished the video but wanted to comment on glitch reaction - yes I absolutely love that song for every reason you guys articulated, it's actually one of the rare taylor songs where the hook is my favourite bit. It is actually one of the songs I've seen people debate about so you're right that it's noticeably different and people have reacted according to their taste. On your overall thoughts about enjoying this edition more than the first 13 - That was actually very much the consensus when these songs were released (a couple hours after the original 13), and I've loved the original tracks more as I've sat with them.

Zoya

yes! glitch appreciation

Kailey Sundstrom

50:40... Mike has nailed it for me. I been a Taylor fan since 2010 I think, and a female a similar age to her so have 'grown up' with her in a way. I have always loved her music and appreciated her songwriting in ways that no-one I knew ever really did. So I had a lot of years of quietly rolling my eyes to 'oh another break up song' and 'she only dates guys so she can write a song about them' and even 'Taylor Swift? Oh yeah Shake It Off is her biggest song' and being silently frustrated that no-one goes deep enough to see beyond the mainstream pop hits, to see the deeper cuts and where her real genuis lies. Now I feel like I get to go on a journey with people who wouldn't normally gravitate towards her music (it normally starts with folklore!) and watch that 'Oh I wasn't expecting this... this is good' > 'Oh another album like folklore (evermore) this is impressive' > 'Oh her older stuff is... wow... how have I never heard this before' > 'Midnights is gonna be another pop album? I dunno if I... OH WOW' > 'I get it' > 'I think I am a Swiftie'.... it's incredible to watch people go on that journey and just expose themselves to her and allow themselves to fully listen and digest the music and see her for the talent she is, beyond any clickbait headline or beyond any relationship she is in. And no-one does it better than you guys. It's a pleasure to watch. I am crossing everything for Reputation (Taylor's Version) coming soon (and we think it's not too far away at all - hope you hold off and wait to watch/review that one instead of the original - you will get to go on that journey with us Swifites in real time. Take care, guys! Thanks for another top video!

Ciara Panton

Hits Different is SUCH an earworm!

Courtney McAlexander

Glad someone mentioned this bc they clearly clicked the vibe change and I was like “it’s the time change! 3 am edition!” Hahah!

Courtney McAlexander

Had to come back just to rewatch the glitch reaction lol

Courtney McAlexander

Loved this reaction!

Ethienne Vicentini Almeida

Glitch was definitely shocking the first time that I listened! But I love the way she can make an entire song, from the vocals to production, encapsulate the theme. Just like the pots and pans in the background of closure, because closure isn’t comfortable!

kris quinn

the best videos that i’ve found are on tik tok. if you want i can compile a few of the best and send links in the discord!

Abby Littleton

i love that when you put on high infidelity you expected to be about her gettinhg cheated on but it was actually her cheating on calvin harris lol

wehaveadarkside

it’s the bridge in “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve”

Jerrica

woooow I love that description

Michael

Is there video of it somewhere? It wasn't on the eras tour movie right?

Michael

which song? i'll go back and listen again

Michael

thank you for being here! <3

Michael

woooo!! happy to help put you on (get it)

Michael

wow 6 years I didn't know that, brings a lot more weight to the song

Michael

I need to test this with a glass of whiskey

Michael

so sorry for your loss <3

Michael

so glad you enjoyed, had such an amazing time listening :)

Michael

glad you enjoyed :)

Michael

thank you!

Michael

that is so cool

Michael

i’m so glad you didn’t miss you’re losing me! this was such a nice surprise today ☺️

emmy

Love your reaction guys <3 Fun fact: The great war, high infidelity , WCS & hits different were produced by Aaron Dessner (founding member of The National, an indie rock band). Aaron was also was the main producer of Folklore/Evermore and since he started working with Taylor, I think she and Jack have been more open to new ways of making music ✨

Verano Bojrttin

Peace is my favorite Taylor song ever and I feel like it never gets enough praise 😭

Mary M

I think the confusion is because Jack produced the whole first part of the album (the original 13 tracks)

Mary M

She definitely needs a break! But our girl is absolutely dropping the reputation and self-titled re-records in 2024! Fans are speculating on her 11th album also coming out but I think it’ll be after the last two re-records. Cannot wait for the reputation (TV) reaction!

Sarah Hackman

In “you’re losing me” (which she wrote in a day) it is her actual heartbeat in the production!

Sarah Hackman

I can tell exactly where you guys are from just from the way you say Taylor 🤣❤️

julie

Yayyyy so happy you guys did this! The 3am tracks are so much better and I’m glad you guys loved and appreciated them 🫶

Mary M

This has been my favorite reaction so far 🥹 I loved that you LOVED the 3am extended songs. I think they are some of the best songs she’s put out and fun fact, the ones you guys loved (the Great War, bigger than the whole sky) were produced by Aaron dessner which I think y’all could tell cause you compared to folklore and evermore lol also Lana wasn’t really in original snow on the beach cause SHE preferred to focus on the production of it and it wasn’t until the album came out that she was like well if I would’ve known I was the only feature I would’ve sang more lol so they came out with that

Isabel

There’s too much to say but I’m at the dear reader part and your dad said even with a song with not that much emotion and I was like whaaaaat? lol dear reader was one of those that I didn’t get until I saw someone react to it and they broke down the lyrics. It’s SUCH a vulnerable song, y’all should listen to it again and read the lyrics. I’m LOVING this reaction. Just had to address that before I forgot lol

Isabel

The best part of these reactions is seeing Taylor get her flowers, after being stereotyped and belittled in the music industry and mass media for so long, we love seeing other people gain respect for her and truly hear her lyrics especially.

Sarah Hackman

Glitch is the friendship bracelet I wear nearly every day. I love it!! I’m a folklore/evermore/reputation Stan (I like the others but that’s my trinity) and every listen midnights creeps onto this list higher and higher. Great reaction guys!

Sarah Hackman

“This is like a glass of whiskey” YES!!

Sarah Hackman

YESSSS

dani

My mom passed away 1/19/23 and I can’t listen to Bigger than the whole sky without crying, thank you for the great and insightful reactions to these beautiful songs!

Serena

Fantastic reaction, you can really see that you appreciate Taylor's music and lyrics. Just to clarify, Midnights isn't just produced by Jack, Aaron Dessner also worked on it. The three had already worked together on Folklore and Evermore

Irene

Great reaction! The great war and you're losing me are my absolute favorites from these extra tracks. They're all so good though 🥹.

Caroline Farley

great reaction. i love how you react to the music clear of knowledge to her personal life and bring a different light/ perspective to it.

Ab

Glitch is THAT bitch

April Green

There’s also so many more layers of lyrical content for fans, it’s not necessary to get or enjoy the songs but it ends up feeling like little things she puts in to reward avid fans. The example I’m thinking of is “how long can we be a sad song” in you’re losing me. She and Joe wrote multiple songs together (he even won a Grammy for his writing credits) and she had said in interviews that they just love writing sad songs together. cut to her finally feeling like she can put “the break up” song out in the public about her longest relationship and she adds that reference. Such a gutting song

Courtney McAlexander

this is it. this is your best taylor reaction so far. i loooove the time you spent talking about glitch. all of these songs are so special. so glad you enjoyed it. especially what you said about the great war and bigger than the whole sky being its own ep, omg, i totally agree. and i was lucky enough to listen to bigger than the whole sky LIVE here in brazil (for a terrible reason though).

Emilie

Glitch was my absolute fave when 3am came out!!! still in my top 5 of midnights

ElizaB

I really hope y’all watch the full video of the live performance bc it’s honestly one of her best surprise song performances of the whole tour. It felt like such a fever dream to be there bc we were all delirious, it was so late, and we didn’t even know if it show would happen. Aaron was GLOWING watching her, the whole thing was just magical. I still can’t watch the girlhood line without crying

Courtney McAlexander

On my first listen to this album when she first released, glitch stood out to me the MOST.

julie

Bigger than the whole sky I have to skip everytime it makes me so emotional

julie

This!!

Olivia S

YES

Olivia S

Would've, Could've, Should've is most likely about John Mayer who she dated when she was 19 (he was 32). Her song Dear John is also most likely about him. He groomed her and the whole relationship affected her a lot. I read somewhere that he has stained glass windows in his house, so that may be what 'Stained glass windows in my mind' refers to. There's also the fact that there are no 'should'ves' because she used them all in Dear John. She apparently wrote You're losing me in December 2021 (so about a year and a half before the actual breakup). The beat is her actual heartbeat. And to answer your question, I also love Glitch. It's so sultry and her vocals are soo good. My personal favorite is Dear Reader.

Diana

Thank you for this reaction! yes! Glitch is one of my favorite on the whole album and I don't get why swifties dismiss it. the 3am edition songs are by far my favorite part of the album. the fact Taylor added 'You're Losing Me' as to hint at us what she's going through with her last ex boyfriend of 6 years.. the vulnerability! because when the album first came out they were still together, so now that they broke up before March 2023 some swifties see this whole album as a break up album.

Tal

same here! love that album so much

cherry

Upvoting because this album is a MUST!

Edward Ramirez

Seconding Troye! Great album.

Edward Ramirez

One last thing, I'm glad you guys review Taylor's music -without- trying to figure out "who she wrote it about," her music applies to so many universal experiences and emotions that I personally don't care for fans /or/ detractors that only want to attribute her music to a specific person or event when it exists independently from its muse. So I know some fans may comment and give you guys context on /why/ she may have written a certain song or /who/ inspired these stories, but never let that overshadow your perception and interpretation. It's the best way to listen to music if you ask me! Ok, stepping off my soapbox.

Edward Ramirez

PS -- "Preacher's Daughter," by Ethel Cain, "How Big How Blue How Beautiful," by Florence and the Machine, and "Ray of Light" by Madonna. My due diligence! Thanks for all you guys do, I look forward to everything you react to!

Edward Ramirez

Just finished the video and I'm glad you guys enjoyed the back half so much. It was the same experience I had, and I definitely would love her to explore that folk/indie/soft rock-ish feel in her next album. It feels like a natural progression, but honestly at this point we all know she's gonna kill whatever genre she sets her mind to. Your analogy of her music being a well kept secret is spot on -- for a long time she had a reputation of just being some pop star making "basic" radio hits meanwhile us fans knew her album cuts were lyrically profound and insightful, and sonically adventurous. Welcome to the club!

Edward Ramirez

You're right with your conparison to your fav song. On the second verse of You're losing me she clearly said "Every mornin', I glared at you with storms in my eyes How can you say that you love someone you can't tell is dyin'? (Joe the clueless king) I sent you signals and bit my nails down to the quick (The quick is the part of the cat's nail that contains the blood vessels and nerves. If bit or cut causes pain and bleeding-she has 3 cats 😼 so she knows) My face was gray, but you wouldn't admit that we were sick" then on bejeweled she has a line saying "Familiarity breeds contempt Don't put me in the basement When I want the penthouse of your heart" In her relationship with Joe, they were so private and never did Joe speak openly about her in public or about their relationship, meanwhile Taylor on every award she received at the time they were dating, gives him a shoutout. LOL There was a tweet saying Taylor liked Joe because he did not care that she was TAYLOR SWIFT and then she lost her because he did not care that she was TAYLOR SWIFT. reflects on the last lines on the song "Do something, babe, say something" (say something) "Lose something, babe, risk something" (you're losin' me).

Grace Abelita

Just here to answer your dad's question: I LOVE Glitch but I don't think it's appreciated enough, like you guys said it's a bit of an acquired taste... just like whiskey lol.

Edward Ramirez

On Would've Could've Should've there's a line "give me back my girlhood, it was mine first" that gives me chills everytime. I feel like at 19 she was exposed to adult shit being in a relationship with a guy that's 32 reflects regretting "dancing with the devil" "the pain was heaven" can be a play on losing her virginity or being hurt because you are so in love. Either way, its fucked up. F*ck u John Mayer 🤬

Grace Abelita

Second this in regards to reaction, brings a new sense of appreciation for it and seeing it through a different lens.

Hayley Townsend

So Glitch was one of my least fave tracks but you’ve given me a new sense of appreciation for it now ☺️

Hayley Townsend

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8Gxea8G/

Ana

The 3am tracks go hard. Dear Reader is the technical closer though. Everything after was released as a single later. (Also, listen to Troye Sivan STGEO. lol)

Josh

THE LONG WAIT IS OVEEEEER!!!! 😌

Grace Abelita

Glitch is the hidden gem and such a unique sound. There are so many hidden things to listen to especially with spatial audio / dolby atmos.

Jesse Garrison

I love Glitch so much! It’s so unique and spacey. I smiled so hard when you spoke about Swifties liking to watch reactors. I love it bc I can’t experience that initial surprise myself again but I can enjoy other people discovering these great songs. It’s a delight 🫶

Teresa Salas

And I'm obsessed with glitch and false god so this tracks 😊

LanaJulie33

aaron dessner came out and played ‘would’ve could’ve should’ve’ with her on the tour as a surprise song. what stood out to me the most was how he looked so proud of her during the performance, both for getting through the emotional song and getting all the words right.

Ana

What a great surprise! So happy you did the Til Dawn + You’re Losing Me. (And of course happy that you liked it :) ) Glitch is not my favorite song, not so much because of the sound, but because the “five seconds later…fastening myself to you with a stitch” line always feels like someone was typing and deleted the line before it and forgot to go back and finish it, lol, but I do kind of feel like it’s what TS11 is most likely going to end up sounding like. I would be curious to see if you would like the first half of the main album better after having heard the back half (it felt a bit like the pop nerve from 1989 was still too raw or something when you first started listening to Midnights) The Great War is awesome. You’re Losing Me is a killer (You say ‘I don’t understand’ and I say ‘I know you don’t.”….. oof). The build in WCS is sooooo good and you know she is feeling Every. Word. Love love. Thank you again for reacting.

Nicole Gordon

i’m a glitch defender fss also appreciate all the content on the patreon!!!!

amily

Also, thanks guys for doing this! We love seeing you react to Taylor. With glitch, I think it had to grow on a lot of people. It took me a second and then I was like woahhhhh

Madison Bowling

You’re so right about you guys being let in on a secret 🤣 that’s how I felt when I started listening to her

Madison Bowling

I’ve been waiting for this part! Loved the reaction!

Selena Martinez

It’s her heartbeat on “you’re losing me” - just FYI!

Bella Billa

i was there!! 🫶 it was soooo good

Caroline

OMG and dear reader is one of my favs from her. Her giving out advice in the verses to then flip it and say “never take advice from someone who’s falling apart” and “you should find another guiding light but I shine so bright”. It’s just such a smart concept from her, who has so many dedicated fans who hold onto every word she says. So good.

anna dailey

For the Nashville rainshow (that started 4 hours late and ended at 2 am), Taylor said we earned a fan favorite surprise song and we got to hear Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve for the first (and ever) time live. It was transcendent to sing such a raw, powerful song with 60,000 other (mostly) women.

Courtney McAlexander

glitch is so underrated! its one of my favorites

Katie Cline

You guys have to listen to Stick Season by Noah Kahan!!

Clarissa Thomas

I LOVE Taylor’s “weirder” songs like glitch, or even peace off folklore and closure off evermore. I think it’s so enjoyable to hear her in those bc it’s a breath of fresh air for her. Which is extremely impressive coming from someone who has 100s of released songs.

anna dailey

I had a feeling yall were from Jersey lol awesome!

Emily Vassallo

Glitch hasnt been a huge standout song for me but you guys are giving me a renewed appreciation for it!!

Caroline

I remember reading somewhere that someone had compared the first 13 songs to midnight- where the party first starts. You're dancing, drinking, carefree. Then 3am hits- you're somber and contemplating life with friends. The party died down and now you're alone with your thoughts. I think that's exactly what she wanted and achieved. Most of her fanbase prefers this back half, and we know she knows that. Also your dad is completely right- we all knew this was the best kept secret and that IS the fun of seeing people react to it lol

Brianna

also, she performed hits different on the eras tour as a surprise song one night, the crowd went absolutely ballistic. it was pretty soon after it came out, and it was like mike said in the video, just her and a guitar!!! would love to see y’all react to it

Abby Littleton

just finished watching, another great video!!! glad it work the third time around. i definitely agree that she’s going in a great direction with her sound, i think she used these “3am” tracks as a way to test out how fans would react to her experimentation, specifically on songs like glitch and dear reader. she knows she can put out the bigger pop songs like anti-hero and bejeweled, she’s got it covered, so that second half probably helped her gauge how people would react without releasing a separate album. a lot of times i end up listening to these instead of the first half, and i literally listen to glitch on repeat.

Abby Littleton

every woman reacts to the “girlhood” line, I have yet to see any man who does. that’s so crazy.

Jerrica

OOOH YEEES such a good album

Jef_68

Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve is theorized to be about John Mayer, who she dated at 19 when he was 32. WCS uses “would’ve & could’ve” but never should’ve in the lyrics. Highly recommend watching the Speak Now tour performance of Dear John, which repeatedly uses the “should’ve” in its lyrics & is one of her early really emotional performances.

Morgan

PLEASE listen to “preachers daughter” by ethel cain! if you love storytelling… the entire album is one entire story.

cherry

yas slayed

cherry

oh shit—

Courtney McAlexander

Forever fan chiming in on Glitch… personally I LOVE it & was obsessed since first listen, but it does seem to be more of a hit/miss track, where fans either really appreciate it or consider more of a skip. Would say it’s similar to ‘false god’ on Lover in that way

McCall

I like to think of her Bonus Tracks as an encore for the album. It’s like, “oh you liked that? I guess I can give you 10 more”. She typically has a concept for each album and songs are left off for narrative reasons, not because they lack in quality (if that makes sense)

Marli Kauffman

That song absolutely rules

Michael

From what I’ve seen, most people love Glitch! The 3 AM/Til Dawn tracks in general are fan favorites for sure

Marli Kauffman

ps we werent mad (at least i wasnt) ! We were just sad because we knew yall would love the back half SO much!

noelle

so happy
