Love the reaction! I joined Patreon for the full reaction to the album and performance. Are you planning on reacting to solar power or pure heroine soon?

sian gurney

Joined patreon for this video as well. Can relate to how you felt on Hard Feelings/Loveless. That is the most painful song on the album for sure. From the begging at the start to be tender with the breakup to letting go of small happy memories together at the end. Felt like you got the emotions of the song in one sitting which is impressive!

Hiroshi Ueki

Melodrama is THAT album and will always be THAT album.

berny

Love your reactions a lot. These three records of hers sound so different. Can't wait for your reaction to her latest album Solar Power, which is my personal fav and the most divisive one among her fan base lol. Since people mentioned her synesthesia, I wanna add that she thought of Pure Heroine as being the color green, Melodrama violet, and Solar Power gold.

shampoo_bamboo

That’s the best review possible my dad nailed it 😂

Michael

Thank you so much for joining! And we have the same favorite song!!!!

Michael

if and when you go into pure heroine, i think it’s important to know that lorde made and wrote pure heroine from the ages of 14-16. lorde looks back on that album and talks about feeling like her albums are all stages of life, pure heroine being the angsty teen stage, melodrama being the brokenhearted stage, and solar power being the liberated stage.

alan

this album is like no other

alan

Great reaction! I highly recommend you guys check our her first album "Pure Heroine" - she unbelievably was only 15 when she wrote her first album and 18 and 19 when she wrote melodrama. Her talent has always fascinated me and her first two albums are her fan favourites.

Katie

Longtime viewer, new patreon member. I actually joined just for this video because that’s how much I love this album. This is both her and Jack’s masterpiece. Not sure why it wasn’t more widely appreciated. Could have to do with label promotion and lack of a constant stream of content like Michael said. I’m a Texas girl and I’ve been a fan since Pure Heroine. Didn’t love Solar Power, but I think it was impossible for her to follow Melodrama. Top 3 are: 1. Hard Feelings/Loveless, 2. Supercut, 3. Writer in the Dark

Melanie

It’s been theorized that it’s a concept album that takes place over the course of a night at a party. She did an interview with Marc Maron while promoting the album, and it’s got some really great info about the making of the album! She said that there were no live instruments used - it was all produced electronically. I love listening to this album on road trips! :) Live in Tennessee now, but grew up in upstate New York!

Colleen McCarthy

You guys should listen to Pure Heroine! It’s equally as good!

Carlos Fernandez

Thanks for the video. Haven‘t gone back to listen to Melodrama in so long. So fun to see someone experience it for the first time :) Love from Germany

“It’s pop but it has balls.” Iconic statement. 😆

Meghan Hameister

I watched this video instantly it came out but I am commenting just now. This is album is so iconic. There is nothing like this. One of the best of all time. Every single song grows on you and becomes so much better. I joined here after listening to your Taylor Swift reactions. I would love if you listened to reputation album highly recommend (her comeback after lots of hate) or midnight (songs about things that kept her up at midnight) I’m not gonna spoil what type of albums they are but you will be surprised.

As a 20 year old girl from PA, lorde’s music is very well known and loved among girls my age. She kinda fits in the group among fans who like Taylor, phoebe bridgers, lana del rey, boygenius, etc. Melodrama is one of my favorite albums of all time I also think its my favorite project from jack antanoff. It’s crazy how it feels so unique and unlike anything but also really accessible.

Olivia

I’m probably gonna comment a hundred times on this but to give you a bit of insight on the colors - she has synesthesia which means she sees sounds as colors and the ones used on the cover are the colors she saw during production. For Hard Feelings - the weird sounds are supposed to represent how a heartbreak feels, highs and lows, a bit uncomfortable, a bit rushed.

Kamis

"You're all gonna watch me disappear into the sun..." cue to Solar Power. I love that connection. Midnights by Taylor would be a perfect album to do next.

Brianna

Omg nardwuar’s hometown!

Michael

I consider Melodrama to be both Lorde and Jack Antonoff’s magnum opus. They brought their absolute A-game to this record. What I would give to listen to this album for the first time again. Ugh. My favorites are 1. Supercut (instant serotonin) 2. The Louvre 3. Hard feelings/Loveless. And im from British Columbia, Canada.

i’m a lorde fan (lucky enough to see her on the solar power tour!) and i live in the U.S. many of my friends love her so i suppose she is only well-known in my age group but i love that you loved this album because it has been one of my favorites since i was a young teen when it first released. this was where my love for jack antonoff grew (without even knowing at the time) and then later becoming a fan of taylor swift. also i see where you are coming from with olivia, i personally like a lot of guts but sour was not my cup of tea. however, an artist that i believe is very similar to her ballads and edgy writing style is chappell roan’s debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. it’s a very dance pop disco tech sounding vibe i have never heard before and i highly recommend, i’m seeing her in march!! keep up the good work🫶🏻

amily

Pure Heroine time

Dillon

Alsooo, I feel like Jack took elements from Melodrama as well when he started working on Midnights with Taylor! Some may see Midnights as if Melodrama and 1989 and Reputation had a baby. Such a great record (production and lyrically) as well that I think the both of you would really enjoy!! 🫶🏼

nicole

Aahhh so glad you enjoyed this!! Oh what I would do to listen to this album for the first time again. 🤍 Melodrama is considered as Lorde’s magnum opus and was even nominated as AOTY in the Grammy’s but had lost over Bruno Mars’ 24k Magic (sooo many great albums that year to be fair 🥲 Kendrick’s DAMN. was also nominated) As for the production, Lorde is such a mastermind and was also heavily involved with the production choices with Jack! People sometimes forget this and discredit how much thought and input she has placed on this album. She also mentioned that this was a concept album which explores the theme of being in a house party. “With a party, there’s that moment where a great song comes on and you’re ecstatic, and then there’s that moment later on where you’re alone in the bathroom, looking in the mirror, you don’t think you look good, and you start feeling horrible.” So excited for you to check out the rest of her discography! I suggest you go back to Pure Heroine first then dive back into Solar Power as the reactions for her latest album were pretty divisive so I’m interested on what you think about it!

nicole

I love that to Mike New Zealand = Europe

Kelsey Davenport

Troye Sivan - Something To Give Each Other is one of the best pop albums of the year if you want something recent.

Josh

Midnights next pls

Ryry

To humor your dad, im from the DFW area in TX!

noelle

I was just discussing this with my dad and yeah it seems like she’s less in the spotlight and by her own choosing to some degree. As popular as she was/is this still feels like a hidden gem. Already can’t stop listening, thanks for watching:)

Michael

For your dad's curiosity: I was born and raised in southern USA and have lived in Arkansas for over a decade. This album came out when I was 17 and my friends and I all quickly took to it. Green Light was the single that was on the radio for this album. I do think her break between her second and third album (Solar Power) has somewhat to do with feeling like she is less well-known, but also Lorde just tends to stay out of the spotlight that much and posts very little online. Besides when she releases an album or goes on tour, not much buzz goes around about her. Also, Lorde and Taylor are friends in the way of both being pop stars. I don't believe they hang out often, but Lorde has said she has spoken to Taylor about songwriting and has even said she greatly admires Taylor's bridges (which Taylor IS known for) and has asked for advice because Lorde feels like she struggles to write bridges and feeling like she has nothing left to say in a song sometimes. I would agree with a previous commenter that all three of Lorde's albums are fairly different from each other, but especially the third one. It would be veryyyy interesting to hear your thoughts on Solar Power. The release was a highly anticipated one after Melodrama and the break. Reactions to it were interesting to say the least. Thank you, so glad you guys decided to do this one and even more excited that you guys loved it so much! I agree, I'm no professional and I have no idea what they put in these songs, but this is most definitely one of my top five albums ever--no skips!

Jenna

thank you so much, can't wait to check out her other projects :)

Michael

thank you !! feel better :)

Michael

had a lot of fun watching this and loved the reaction, as always. i'm from brazil and i've loved lorde's music since ROYALS lol. i know a lot of people who also love melodrama and her other albums here, but i do think not enough people know her discography as much as it deserves to be known. you should definitely listen to her other two albums, and i think the next one should be pure heroine!

Emilie

You made my sick day guys, thank you for this gem 🤍 Love Lorde and love you!

dodolotr

Also always love your reactions!

anna dailey

Melodrama is my fav album from lorde… BUT all of her albums are so special and unique. Her debut album is so fantastic and really was so important for pop music at the time. Idk if I would recommend going back to that one first or to her newest album. They are all so different. You can’t go wrong with her in my eyes.

anna dailey

Love Lorde 🤍 I’m from UT to humor dad lol

Kiersten Jordan

Enjoy mate!!!

Michael
