Progress Report

Hi there!

Not much progress to report this week, I'm afraid. I took a little time off to recharge my batteries after working my ass off to finish 0.32 before July was over. Instead, I've been interacting with the community, advertising the game, and listening to feedback. One rather significant omission that one player discovered is that I entirely forgot to handle cases where Evelyn has left town, so if that happened in your game, she would suddenly show up again during 0.32's events as if nothing ever happened. This will get fixed for 0.33, obviously.

So, what's the plan for 0.33, anyway? It's the big climax of the story, I can tell you that. One way or another, the conflict with Selena ends in this version. Apart from two or so minor scenes at the beginning of this version, the whole thing should be just one big scene. There's a lot to unpack in that encounter, with many potential variations depending on earlier choices. I also want to include some kind of gameplay instead of just reading, which requires a bit of design work. 

I may or may not create a final scene that wraps up Selena's story entirely, but this depends on how much time the main course takes to make. If I don't have the time, I'll push it back to 0.34. We'll see how it goes, and as always, I'll keep you up-to-date through these progress reports.

Right now, my first priority is to create a "map" through this version's events, similar to what I showed you at the beginning of 0.32's development. I want to cover all the eventualities before I render or write anything, so this will be the first thing I do.

Anyway, that's all I have to report for now. Hopefully, next week will include some actual progress to report on.

I have no idea what you're referring to here. If it's the walkthrough, I can't really help you since I didn't write it. Charisma points are gained by seducing the women in the game to the point where they want to be in a relationship with you, except for one point you get by reading a book.

No online for evelyn it says to increase the last charisma point you need to go through the romance or the thaddeus chain

What Thaddeus chain are you referring to here? The courage training? That's coming later.

One thing I dont get, where is the end of the thaddeus chain?

They didn't lose a lawsuit, but I understand what you mean. As far as I and other developers can tell, the risk to Patreon is minimal to nonexistent. You have nothing to worry about, but if that doesn't satisfy you as an answer, there's always my SubscribeStar page as an alternative.

Due the the lawsuit that Patreon just lost, if they collapse, how will we get game updates and new games?

It's tough to help without knowing what clues you already have. All I can say right now is that you should figure out Nell's secret first before talking to the Fairy Queen about it.

And I expect the community to make guides/maps as everything starts coming together and the game gets completed. What I'm saying is that I'm not going to make that kind of thing.

Eh, I get what you mean about the spreadsheet but I don't think of it as an either/or. I like to play through "blind" a time or two on any game and enjoy it as it's meant to be played, but once I'd done with that I want to see all the content and plots that I missed. Having to just iteratively go through every permutation of choices is tedious, so a guide/map helps you get to what you missed efficiently.

Mapping all the routes was always intended to be a community effort. Me explaining every possible option defeats the purpose behind putting choices in the game to begin with and reduces it to a glorified spreadsheet. On the other hand, some fans are likely going to decompile the code and analyze it anyway.

Yeah, that's how I'd look at it too. Ah, well. If there are no maps and you don't release the source, my inner completionist will never know if I got all the routes..... :-(

I've considered it, but they contain too many things that got changed or invalidated, and they aren't exactly pretty to look at. I fear they would confuse fans more than entertain them. Besides, I'm afraid that if my personal notes while making something become subject to publication, it will create another barrier preventing me from working efficiently.

When all is said and done, I hope you'll consider releasing your map notes. Doubtless they are terse and intended just for your own use, but the community will probably be able to make something useful out of them.....

I've kinda been blown away by some of the branches people have been experiencing, I have no idea what I should have done differently to get to these 😂 not that I was really trying though. I'm probably just gonna keep on playing my first play-through until the game is completely finished, afterwards I might go back, start over and try some things I would normally never do just to see some different endings ^^
