Sketch – In every page I try to build a small narrative arc, with a clear beginning and end. Here it moves from the kiss to the moment when the action is about to start. A simple but necessary step to balance the page and increase curiosity for the next one.
Definitive Sketch – I added many panels and changes of perspective to make this page more descriptive and immersive. The final sketch looked good, but later I made some adjustments to certain details.
Lineart – While completing the lineart I noticed a few oddities: the wolf’s thighs in panel 6 didn’t look quite right, and the dog’s paw felt too stiff. I slightly adjusted the wolf’s thighs and moved the dog’s fingers a bit to make the paw less rigid. Yes, I know, I’m overly critical of myself… hahaha.
Flat Coloring – I really enjoy the simplicity of flat colors. One day I’d love to create a whole project in this style. Backgrounds remain minimal, leaving space and emphasis for the main elements.
Shadows and Highlights – Once I add lights and shadows, everything changes. The main style is cel-shading, with sharp light and deliberately rough edges to keep a cartoony feel. On some details I soften the contours with gradients to enhance the three-dimensional look, like the dog’s butt and genitals. Ambient reflections, such as on the dog’s face in the central panel, are small touches of light that ignite the scene and make it more intense.
If you have any questions about any of the steps, I'd be happy to answer them!
