Alexa sat up in bed, rubbing sleepily at her eyes. She had a full day ahead of her–work, night school, maybe a healthy meal in there if she could count on a few miracles. Being an adult kind of sucked, and all the independence and freedom she’d been promised didn’t really help much when she had to spend all her time “being responsible”. Sometimes, when nobody was around to hear, she wished she could give it all up, but noooo, she had to work.
She stood up, diaper sagging heavily between her–
Wait. Hold on.
Looking down, her eyes widened–she was pretty certain she hadn’t worn that diaper to bed. She definitely didn’t remember soaking it to capacity.
And, as she blinked away sleepiness, she realized something else: This wasn’t her room. Her room didn’t have plush toys and baby blocks stacked by the bed, it didn’t have a changing table off by the closet, and it definitely wasn’t this big–the pastel room she’d woken up in was as big as her whole shoebox apartment.
“Aww, rise and shine, crinkles,” a voice said. “You’re probably a little confused, but don’t worry–Mommy is going to explain everything. Someone heard your wish, and I’m here to make sure it comes true.”
