Rayne shuffled back to her dorm room, some of the enthusiasm gone out of her morning.

On the one hand, she’d been handed a perfect excuse to wear diapers for as long as she wanted. Any time, she’d be able to be in diapers as dirty as she liked with no fear of getting into trouble. She could sit through classes without needing to excuse herself to use the potty. Heck, she could show up to classes in a full diaper and spend the whole time squishing around if she decided that was something she wanted to do.

On the other hand, those perks came with a level of publicity that she wasn’t all that happy with.

At least one teacher knew, and pretty soon, the whole school’s staff would. That wasn’t the worst thing in the world - they were professional, they wouldn’t make a big deal.

Her roommate, though…

Rayne squirmed a little. Her illusion would hide the stinky state of her diaper from everyone except faculty, but it didn’t do much to prevent diaper rash. She hadn’t meant to go this long without changing, but the confrontation with one of her teachers had dragged out her crinkly outing by an extra hour.

Stepping back into her dorm room, she blinked in surprise. “Kate?”

There was a tall blonde in her room, currently unpacking a suitcase into her closet. Rayne had seen her profile picture before, but this was their first time meeting face to face. Turning, she smiled. “You must be Rayne! I got here a little early, so I thought I’d start getting unpacked.”

Stepping closer, she extended her hand, which Rayne shook uncertainly.

“Yeah, uh-” Her diapers were in her own closet, and they weren’t hidden under any sort of veil. If she wanted to change into a fresh one, she’d need to get them out, and there was just no way to do that without Kate seeing. “Nice to meet you!”

She wasn’t going to be able to hide her diapers from Kate forever, but she didn’t want to have this conversation in a particularly full diaper and a childish onesie. Once Kate knew to look for a veil, she might see through it and notice.

“That’s such a cute top,” Kate said, looking Rayne’s outfit up and down. “Is it Burberry?”

“Uh, Gerber,” Rayne mumbled.

Kate hesitated. “What was that?”

“Nothing,” Rayne replied, shaking her head. In the little dorm, with the window shut, the smell of her diaper threatened to make the whole room smell particularly foul, and she didn’t know how well her illusion would hold up in the face of that. She needed to change. “Have you talked to our RA yet? She’s down the hall, you should probably-”

“Already done!” Kate beamed. “She popped her head in earlier and gave me a quick introduction.” Returning to unpacking, she nodded her head towards the candles on Rayne’s desk. “Were you doing a spell earlier?”

“Oh, uh… just a little practice,” Rayne said, scooting closer to her closet. Maybe I can grab a diaper and wipes and then hide them until I get to the bathroom?

“So, what are you gonna do now that we’re not living at home?” Kate asked. “Excited to go to some parties? Stay out late without mom treating you like a baby?”

Rayne had already done what she was most looking forward to, but she didn’t know how to explain that. “Uh, parties, I guess.”

Kate grinned back at her. “Do we need to establish a sock code for the door?”

Scooting a little closer to her closet, Rayne cracked the door, peering inside. Her changing supplies were in a box on the floor.

Squatting to reach inside, she felt the muck inside her diaper squelch, and couldn’t help but smile. I can do this whenever I want!

Whether it would lose its charm in a couple weeks remained to be seen, but for now, it was worth the hassle. Grabbing a diaper and a pack of wipes, she held them under her arm, stood with her back to Kate, and turned to walk into their shared bathroom. “I’ll, uh, just be a second.”

She turned the handle, stepped inside, and- “Jeez! Haven’t you heard of knocking?”

Someone was inside. A girl Rayne didn’t recognize, sitting on the toilet.

Yelping, Rayne stumbled back, slamming the door shut and almost falling as she backpedalled hard.

“Heh, yeah, we’ll have to get used to… that…” Kate trailed off, looking at Rayne, gaze focused on the article tucked under Rayne’s arm.

“Um…” Rayne said, face flushing a deep red. “I, uh… I can explain.”

It took Kate a second to speak. “You wear diapers?”

“Er… yes.” Rayne’s blush deepened, and she quickly added, “It shouldn’t ever be a problem for you. I can use glamours to hide it, as far as you’re concerned it won’t even-”

“Please,” Kate shook her head. “I’m not going to ask you to do that. Having to keep up magic twenty-four seven? That’d be exhausting and it’s silly. I don’t mind.”

“I… really?” Rayne asked, raising her eyebrows.

“Hey, it’s not like it’s your fault,” Kate said. “Are you using an illusion right now?”

“I am,” Rayne admitted, looking down at her feet. “I didn’t… that is, I was hoping we wouldn’t have to, uh, talk about this for a while.”

Kate shrugged. “Seriously, I don’t mind. When we’re in here, you’ve got absolutely no obligation to keep up a veil. I’ll let you know if I’ve ever got friends coming by, but for me, it’s no problem at all.”

Rayne let out a sigh of relief. “I… okay.”

“So…” Kate paused. “I don’t have friends over now.”

“Right. It’s just… I need to change,” Rayne said. “And, well…”

“Rayne.” Kate rolled her eyes. “I. Do. Not. Care.”

“Well, uh… okay.” Concentrating a bit, Rayne whispered, “Let the spell be ended.”

The veil dropped, and the magic keeping her true appearance - and her true smell - hidden dissipated.

Despite her earlier promises, Kate’s nose wrinkled, and she put a hand to her nose, pinching it shut. “Um… okay. Maybe do something about that, but, like…”

“I’m sorry,” Rayne said, turning pink. “I didn’t- Um-”

“I just mean, get changed or whatever once the bathroom’s free,” Kate said, smiling behind her hand. “It’s not a big deal. I, uh, might light some candles though.”

Looking down, Rayne shuffled her feet, wishing she hadn’t dropped the veil. Why couldn’t I have just told her I wasn’t using one?

“Hey, so, once we put together a roommate agreement,” Kate said, taking shallow breaths as she twirled her fingers over the candles on Rayne’s desk. They flickered to life, doing their best to combat the smell in the air. “Is there anything you, like… need? For your accidents, or whatever.”

“Like what?” Rayne asked, tilting her head.

“Like, the bottom bunk, in case you leak and, uh… Well, I guess that’s more for my sake than yours,” Kate shrugged. “Or, like… Can you tell when you’ve had an accident? Do you need me to, uh, tell you?”

“I can tell!” Rayne said quickly. “Don’t- That is, I’ll always make sure to change right away.”

“Okay, good. I didn’t want to be rude, but I hadn’t realized it would smell quite that, uh… strong?” she shrugged, returning to the task of unpacking.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to use an illusion?” Rayne asked. “Because-”

“And be the pushy asshole roommate?” Kate asked over her shoulder. “No way. You’ve got a problem, I’m not going to make it harder for you. Just keep your diaper clean and we won’t have any problems.”

Rayne couldn’t help but smile a little. “Thanks for being understanding.”

“Of course.” Kate hung up a shirt, explaining, “I’ve got four siblings, the oldest is still a decade younger than me. I’ve got plenty of experience with dirty diapers, it’s not something that really bothers me too much.”

A mental image flashed through Rayne’s mind, of Kate leaning over her to change her diaper. She blushed again, for totally different reasons than before, and tried to think about something else.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, a distraction presented itself as the bathroom door opened behind her. The girl who’d been using their shared bathroom spoke up behind Rayne.

“Bathroom’s open, if you still need… it. Are you wearing a diaper?”
