New one-shot story: Fly-Thru Library Service

(Random Sidebar Image Grab!  It's been so long since we've met!)

...so DELWMG ended April on a cliffhanger after all.

I did have a reason.  I thought there was potential for the next segment to go megachapter and after a trip yesterday, I didn't have the strength for megachapter.  (I also didn't know where a natural break point might lurk.)  But I also came up with an idea, and it's been a while since I've done a light comedy.  After a lot of heavy drama in the last few months, I thought it would be a nice change of pace to go for a few laughs.

And then last night saw me damage a gas station because I drove off thinking the attendant had, y'know, taken the nozzle out when the gas was fully paid for and already dispensed.  The breakaway hose?  Broke away.

I need to make this clear.  The gas station does not expect me to pay for damages.  That pressure-separation coupling on the hose exists for a reason.  My worry is that a surge of sideways-moving pressure damaged the car's fuel intake pipe, and -- I won't know about that until the next time I put fuel in and get to watch for leaks.  That's Tuesday at the earliest.  I'm probably okay and if the car did take an injury, it's -- gonna hurt, but I'll let people know.

(Regardless, please don't act prematurely.  The Ko-Fi goal remains Everfree Northwest, and we may talk about that in the blog next month.)

And why am I bringing all this up?  Because of the usual punchline.  Oopsie!  Here's a new source of stress out of nowhere!  Now go be funny.

I wasn't sure I could manage it.  There was a point last night when I thought I'd never be able to write a comedy today, and a darker moment had me trying to figure out if I could survive next month on four postings.  I didn't have time to locate another idea...

But it's up, with about three hours to spare on the race against midnight.  (9K word count.  Yes, I'm tired.)  I hope people get a few smiles out of it.

"Now go be funny."

Now I'll go rest.

See you in May.
