Meta Officers

Here we have a new direction on how Metas of the MCD (Now MMD which stands for Meva Meta Defense) will be portrayed, including a new character named Gwen Ross, who's Khali's new partner. Unlike before, I'm going with a more modern approach for all Meta Officers of different agencies. They should be a cohesive unit like any law enforcement agency, so most officers will have uniforms indicating who they are and who they work for. So now, they're a lot more professional looking than how I had em before, where everyone looked like random superheroes.

The last 3 Metas are fodder that will be dunked on by the Port Town Gang in the first 2 pages lol. So enjoy 'em smiling while you can. The panda bear woman is the woman Ray will save from Halberd's attack.

The general idea this time around, which I've tried and failed to convey in Ray Fox the first time around, is that the average Meta does not have special abilities. Most of them rely on their own strength, skills, or tools. In Khali's case, he's a Rhino with super strength, strength that is appropriate in the context of a Rhino in Ray Fox's universe. The same goes for this new character, Gwen, who's a kangaroo with incredibly powerful legs. The same goes for the Panther, Panda, and tiger Metas in this post. They're Metas for utilizing innate abilities like strength, speed or senses. Ray and Summer are just anomalies in the landscape of Metas.

And in case any of you were wondering, yes Gwen is replacing Natasha but only as her role as Morales' bodyguard. There have been some characteristics of Morales in the narrative that have been amplified that require him to no longer have Natasha as a body guard. You'll understand what I mean by this once I start on the chapter.

However! While replacing Natasha, Gwen is her own new character, she won't have Natasha's traits or personality and Natasha is simply having her role in the narrative altered. In the end, she will still work for Morales, just not in chapter 1!

So what do you guys think? You like Gwen? Or Khali's new look? Enjoy!

I think "do you wanna get kicked" in combination with her general design and everything you've said about her so far was what did it- partially how she seems to be another brawler- But since you were surprised by my evaluation, I think maybe my concerns are not warranted. You are plenty more capable of creating a varied cast of characters than I, so maybe I'm projecting a little.

Interesting! What makes you concerned that she'd be anything like Summer?

Scotty

Some people may disagree, but I don't think we need a second Summer. Just so long as Gwen isn't too close in personality to Summer, I'll be happy. I mean, to be fair, I'm pretty happy with the introduction of a kangaroo character anyway, but I figured my concerns should be voiced.

It's a pleasure to meet Gwen. She has a great design. And I look forward to seeing her fight. I am fond of kangaroos and I am excited to see her fighting style.

Most certainly! Most Metas are Metas because of physical traits but some are Metas because of intelligence, tools, or skills. Natasha and Asuka, for instance, are Metas. Both Metas for their harmony of their skills and tools. Which is why I said "virtually" impossible and not straight up impossible. If there was a shrew who's built a giant mech or something that evens the odds, then he would be considered a Meta. While possible, this scenario is not common in Ray Fox. Halberd and the Gang exhibit this idea. They depend on weapons to give them a leg up on the competition.

Scotty

That also makes me think that maybe a meta isn't all physical feats - if Dex had the smarts and resources to build an iron man suit then I think he'd be a meta even if he's just average physically.

Gally

Simply put a meta is a person who is considered a threat to the average person. Even the strongest of shrews could barely contest to the average dog because of their size and physical limits. So by definition, in this universe, it is virtually impossible for someone like a shrew, mouse, or hamster to be a Meta. But this is an area of world building that gets touched on a lot in the themes of the story.

Scotty

>the average Meta does not have special abilities. I think the confusing part was what exactly a special ability is. Things like super strength, speed and durability are pretty common in media and are the "Default" powers to a point. Liev doesn't have special abilities beyond physical but is just strong as hell. Kinda like Shanks in One Piece. That's why I sorta in a small way disagree with the fact that "Weak" animals can't be metas, like a shrew will always be small and weak but surely there can be shrews that are much stronger than the average shrew, even if that still doesn't make them a match for bigger species. Or maybe they just simply can't be strong and that's that.
