When I was younger we had a neighbor who went out for the night and left her dog in the backyard on the 4th of July. There was so much noise etc that the dog chewed through the gate to escape. We found her, but unfortunately later that night the dog became distressed and I went with our neighbor to the ER. She had to be euthanized because she had consumed wood, paint and nails. So heartbreaking...so preventable
