Changes to Patreon and Content Focus
Added 2024-09-28 17:27:05 +0000 UTCA few weeks ago, Patreon announced the retirement of the per-creation billing model, effective November 2025, forcing all creators on this model (like me) to switch to a monthly subscription model.
Since the announcement, I've been contemplating the implications for Tych Maps. This abrupt change is a significant shift in my business model and content release strategy.
Under the per-creation model, you are charged your tier amount with each new map release. You can also set a cap on your monthly contributions, controlling the maximum you pay to support my work. While this cap varies among patrons, I am grateful for whatever amount you choose to support me.
The transition poses a challenge in setting new monthly subscription rates, especially considering the various tiers, including legacy ones from my early mapmaking days.
I'm still determining the new tier prices. My goal is to use the available time to ensure clarity about the upcoming changes, their timing, and rationale. For now, consider this an early notice that changes will take effect next year and you will receive ample notice before they take effect.
I've decided to concentrate on my city maps for Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate. My vision includes interactive web maps for these cities, linking to all my other content and reference information, and a similar setup for Foundry VTT. These tools will lay the groundwork for the new subscription model, alongside the continued release of new maps and locations to enrich these offerings.
I appreciate the incredible support you've shown for my work.
Cheers,
Ian // Tych Maps

Sorry! I wish it had capacity to do both (and I wish Patreon didn't pull the rug out from under my feet in terms of a content release model). I hope you can source some awesome maps to round out your campaign

2024-10-23 08:35:36 +0000 UTCI will finish them - but probably not for many months as I work on the Waterdeep and BG City maps. I'm hoping to get a "City map" scale Candlekeep map as the next DIA map, as well as an Elturel (in FR and in Avernus), and then continue on with Avernus locations.
