Baldur's Gate - Upper City - The Wide - City Map (All Tiers)

Why tackle one giant city map (Waterdeep) when you can tackle two! This kicks off my city map project for Baldur's Gate! I'll be jumping back and forth between the two over the next little while and will post a separate update on that in a few weeks laying out the planned work.

This is my interpretation of the Baldur's Gate district The Wide.

The Wide. A vast open-air marketplace and plaza. It's reputation as a market and public forum is well-known across Faerûn.

This map borrows a lot of style cues from my Descent into Avernus maps and aims for a warmer more mediterranean vibe than my Waterdeep map. I tried out a few new techniques with this map that I'm hoping to transfer over to Waterdeep.

Map size is 375x305 grid cells, with a 5ft grid.

Files. Files are attached below in both jpg and png formats. There are files that use 10px and 20px per grid cell, as well as a 300dpi image for any high resolution or print uses.

man seeing all of BG mapped out at this scale is a wild undertaking -- perfect timing on this piece too, i almost said something the other week like "don't suppose the next one could be of The Wide??" haha I have some folks doing some of candlekeep's stuff and they're on chapter 2 now which has them searching the Wide for a book stand. now this will feel properly like a damn "tent maze" lol

No problem! Scale is always a little odd with these city maps and you'll find contradictions from different sources and especially when you go down to the building/battlemap scale. So, you end up having to kind of pick a scale and go with it. But this scale is based on the scale bar at the bottom of the overview city map.

Aside - I absolutely love this concept. Really looking forward to seeing BG mapped out like this. These city maps are really high value for a city campaign - Avernus act 1 or otherwise.

Ah... perfect. I didn't realise that its 5ft. Yeah, I'll just adjust and make the grid size smaller. Thank you!

Noralf

Sorry! I included it in the file name but forgot to put it into the post. Map is 375x305 at a 5ft grid cell. The files are 10px or 20px per grid cell to keep overall file size low for VTTs.

Ian

Please include scaling in the map. Need to know how many feet per square.
