Blackstaff Tower - Waterdeep (All Tiers)
Added 2024-05-31 06:40:27 +0000 UTCBlackstaff Tower. One of the most recognizable landmarks in the Castle Ward. The 3-storey windowless and doorless stone structure dominates the central courtyard between 4 smaller towers. Home to the Blackstaff of Waterdeep.
Map Notes. As always, the map is intended to match the source material as closely as possible. In this case that includes the map and descriptions contained in the 2e adventure Waterdeep (TSR9249), the Forgotten Realms Wiki, and the Oakthorn Wiki. The only discrepancy I noted (despite changing Blackstaffs and apprentices over the years), was the location of the library and parlor on the second floor were flipped between Waterdeep and the Oakthorn wiki. Logically I think it makes more sense for the dumbwaiter to open to the parlor (not the library), so I went with the Oakthorn version, even if the Waterdeep source is more canonical.
The 3 known/public/well established levels of the tower are mapped here as well as the surrounding smaller structures. Sources suggest that the tower is in fact home to many more levels - let me know with a comment below if there is something you'd like to see for a future map to add some of these levels!
Note the lack of exterior doors and windows (and interior ones that don't go all the way through the walls) is intentional as per the source material.
In the cellars, you have 2 different vaults - one filled with stone vaults containing an assortment of items; the other empty except for a table with 2 stone chests on it.
Files. There are all 4 seasons, day/night, and the usual VTT versions for the map. Lots of zip files below, organized by season and VTT: Roll20Free for smaller 70px images; Roll20Paid for larger 140px images; FoundryVTT for 100px dd2vtt files compatible with multiple VTTs; and Printable which are 140px gridded images in color and black and white.

So, there's some old adventures i think one was a 4e supplement, but i'd love to have some of Ahghairon's tower, with the whole like nuked skeleton hanging out of the upper wall where someone tried to teleport in. There's just so much interesting lore around the tower. Our setting we use is a modified TFR, so dragons have a huge role, and it makes waterdeep one of the most dragon-free cities in the world because of the dragonward. Just putting my two cents in, i'd love more of this, or that tower. Lots of fun to explore. Loving DIA so far as well!!
