Palace of Waterdeep [150x100]

This got out of hand.  This map ended up being enormous and difficult to work with.  I've capped the effort for this month with the files shown - but next month's poll will include some options to expand the palace!

The Palace of Waterdeep -  the Lord's Palace.  An administrative center for the city with many officials offices and the residence of the Open Lord of Waterdeep.

Size.  I always try to make my maps as accurate to source materials as possible – for which the main source I had on this was the WDH map of Waterdeep.  There is no scale on that map, but using the Trollskull Alley map as reference this map would come out approximately the same size at ~70x50.  That doesn't seem very palacial.

Next I took some measurements from the aidedd map – and ended up at the current map size of 150x150.  Yikes.. But it needed to happen.

General layout and levels.  From forgottenrealmsfandom I knew that the council chamber was on the second level and that there were some tall towers.  In my searching I also came across this brave gentlemen making a scale model of waterdeep and his 3D model of the Palace - a good starting point that I quite liked – a good mix of castle/fortress and palace styles.

The completed map files contain Levels 1, 2, and the Roof view – but ONLY the main palace building complete with assets.  The roofs have been clipped to show only the completed areas.  Mapmakers – there is a framework ready to go for all the other areas but was out of scope of this already stupidly large map.  Sources suggest you could have the other towers be private embassies of different factions/cities and off limits to players should you wish to have a good reason for them not to go there.

Modularity.  I wanted to include some modular elements should you wish to expand the map.  Level 1 is admittedly not very modular.  Level 2 contains the following: 5x6 central rooms that can be swapped around/duplicated as needed (storage, toilet, tidy office, guest quarters, messy office); along the hallways there are 4x4 rooms that can be used on ANY of the hallways between towers (bedroom ,office, toilet, bath room). Level 3 has a similar layout with additional 5x6 rooms and was envisioned to be the open lord's private quarters.  From there we continue up to Levels 4 and 5 which includes the taller towers.

Files. The files are broken into 3 categories for this release – and split as required for Patreon file size limits.

• Finished Files – these are the completed map files for Levels 1, 2, and the Roof described above.
• Palace Files - these are cropped files of just the main building of the palace - a more reasonable 52x46 image size
• Raw Files – these are the unaltered components of each level in PNG format to allow you to layer, combine, or further edit the map
• Modular elements – these are the clipped elements 5x6 or 4x4 for swap rooms in and out as required.
