Gofile News 2021/04/14

Hi everyone,

It's time to give you some news about the development of Gofile and the recent changes.

The last few months have been mostly about optimizing the existing system, migrating to new technologies and new providers. Many things have changed.

Those who visit Gofile daily may have noticed. A month ago on March 14th a big data migration was done. The goal was to convert the data in order to make it compatible with a future database migration. Gofile is more than 100 TB of data. The operation took time and the platform was inaccessible during the whole process.

Many inefficient servers were replaced by more powerful ones. This operation also takes a lot of time, because the data must be migrated gradually while keeping them available. Speaking of servers, I am in discussion with a datacenter to deploy my own servers and manage my own network. For the moment, the servers are rented from large hosting companies, which is not necessarily ideal for a service like Gofile that uses a lot of bandwidth. Having my own network offers flexibility in configuration, better performance and cost control.

I hope this will work out.

All these changes are not visible to the users, but are necessary to stabilize the infrastructure and develop new features later.

Regarding the new user features of the last months: 

- All donors now have the possibility to use direct links. You can embed your uploads on your site without going through Gofile. Traffic is limited to 500 GB to avoid abuse, but it is enough for most uses.

- The video player has been modified.

- The API is now accessible from api.gofile.io in addition to apiv2.gofile.io

- An antivirus scan is performed on each uploaded file

- Fixed a bug when many files were uploaded at the same time.

About future features. I have big ambitions for the future of Gofile and that's why I'm doing a lot of changes and migration on the current infrastructure.

- Folder management.

Folder management is planned. You will be able to drag and drop a complete structure and everything will be replicated on Gofile.

- Better management of uploads

The editing function of uploads will be improved. You will be able to modify the advanced options of existing uploads.

It will be possible to import external uploads to your space. Create new uploads from a folder of an upload.

- Statistics

I also prepare detailed statistics on uploads. Number of downloads over time, traffic used, device type, etc. This will be very useful for creators who want to have a detailed analysis of their uploads.

All this of course will take time. I'll keep you posted on the progress of each step.
