Waterdeep Dragon Heist - Map Index

I've never run that exact setup before - when I played in person I used a TV but with digital tokens that the players could move (shared mouse to move them). There are a few different VTTs (or add-on modules for VTTs) that are specifically for in-person play with virtual maps.

Thank you so much for the additional information on importing to Arkenforge. I am running in person games with miniatures but using electronic battlemaps on a TV gameboard. What software have you found the easiest to use.

Nichol

Thanks I will run some tests :)

I'm not super familiar with Maptools. If you are using the "Roll20" image files, I would use 70px or 140px depending on whether its the R2F (70) or R2P (140) version. If you are using the "Foundry" dd2vtt files, 100px. The canvas size can be referenced from the file name (ie. yawning portal is 26x29 grid cells.)

Ian

First of thanks for all the amazing maps here. I do have a question about gridsize. We use Maptools for our group, what gridsize would you recommend for a map like The Yawning Portal?

This post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/57729079 has links out to all of my work, including the monthly dropbox link

Ian

Hello, I paid for the subscription, but don't know where or if i can get the download link for the map collection. Could you help me out?

Vladan Basic

Yes - VTT's typically include walls and each player token has a view unique to their character. It's more like a video game in that regard, where each person on their own computers logs in and can see what their character sees. My maps are primarily targeted to VTTs. If printing and using them in person I would suggest covering un-explored areas and revealing as players open up new rooms. If playing virtually but not on a VTT (or in person with 1 common TV or something), I'm sure there is a creative way to do this. I'd suggest looking into VTTs if the budget allows though!

Ian

I don't play on a VTT, do they have some way of hiding/masking the secret areas? Is that why there are no maps that don't show them?

Michael Stone

never mind the mod i was using (levels) must have been canceling something out they work fine on their own

Charles White III

hmmm. just on that map or are they having problems on a number of different maps? I can't think of anything expressly on the map side of things that would be causing this to happen. Might be worth asking on the Foundry discord. A quick search trying to figure out what may be happening also led me to something about WebGL settings.

Ian

fog of war dosent seem to be working on the villa maps for foundry v10 anything explored just gets cover back up again

Charles White III

That looks great! And no post-fireball without people. Interesting thought though that I hadn't considered, might try and edit one in the future. As of right now, not available though.

Ian

After a lot of work and just struggling to understand how things worked I managed to get this working~ https://puu.sh/IuT2H/c5bd5cc145.mp4 Thank you so much for the help! I assume there is no post-fireball version with things broken but no hurt people in the streets?

Nyss

No worries! If you haven't seen this post (https://www.patreon.com/posts/57279651) yet, I'd suggest giving it a readthrough as it talks about different ways to set up maps/import into Foundry. As for the maps themselves: Trollskull Alley: https://www.patreon.com/posts/48555104 Trollskull Manor: https://www.patreon.com/posts/59108019 Fireball: https://www.patreon.com/posts/48647517 I'd suggest having the Alley as one scene, and then the manor separately when they head inside (but you can probably combine all floors into 1 scene using universal battlemap importer). With the manor I'd start your players with the "disrepair" version and then can move them to a 'disrepair - light' version once they've explored it the first time. If they splurge and fix it up there is the repaired version available for that too. Hope this helps!

Ian

Sorry to bother again, but the Trollskull Alley/Mansion maps are so all over the place that I'm having trouble figuring out what's what and what does where, doesn't help that I haven't really imported into foundry from maps like this before... Can you give me some pointers on how to build that map (in spring) with levels?

Nyss

That's correct. I'm hoping I can get the next one out this week, so hopefully you won't need to grab too many before you have access to the Google drive.

Ian

(Didn't mean to send that message yet) Any eta on when the next one might happen? Would just help me figure out how many things I should get ahead of time from these links

Nyss

Ah I see, I think I understand now, so I can download any of these maps and not be billed, it's just time consuming until you release a new map, then I get billed and I get an email to the drive, correct?

Nyss

Hi Nyss, thanks for joining! The way my Patreon is set up is that when you join you get access to my entire back catalog of content - you can download/access as much as you like and won't be charged anything (so download away!) When I release NEW content, you will be charged your pledge amount (1 Euro) for each new release. You are only charged once per new map I release, up to the pledge limit you set per month. I don't release more than 4 maps per month so 4 Euro is the max you would ever be charged in a month. You can cancel at any time - lots of people have a "number" in mind that they think is fair/reasonable to pay for the content they use/access, which is different for everyone - so support as long as works for you! Thank you!

Ian

Hello, I'm new to patreon, and I'm trying to understand how this works... Will it cost 1€ per map, for the whole thing, or what? I'm a bit confused and want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong before I pay

Nyss

Thanks Delsian! That should be coming your way shortly (as a new map is inbound soon!) Chapter 8 if all goes smoothly should be done in a month or less - 2 more Chapter 7 maps, then 2 Chapter 8 maps (as the towers and sanctum will be separate). What I do next for content still hasn't been decided....it might be DotMM though :)

Ian

Hello, I really like maps. I can't wait to have the link to integrate them into Foundry VVT so that my friends can play. When do you think you can finish the content of Chapter 8? Are you also going to create content for the "dungeon of the mad mage" campaign? Eden Delsian, thks to google translate ...

Delsian

Thank you! I'm glad to hear it

Ian

I just wanted to say that your maps are an absolutely wonderful addition to my game. Thank you so much for focusing on this module, your maps bring Waterdeep to life for myself and my players!

jrrthompson

Hi Michael - just sent you a direct message on this to get this resolved. Looks like it was sent - but possibly ended up in junk or I have the wrong email down for you (I just have what Patreon has). Let's resolve this over DM to keep personal info safe.

Ian

I joined at the beginning of July. Should I have received this email already?

Michael Thompson

Also to add - here is a quick explanatory post on what to expect when you receive the file share: https://www.patreon.com/posts/file-share-is-49865519

Ian

Thanks for becoming a patron! I email out the file share link (a google drive link) immediately after each paid release (so expect it later this week or early the following week). Because I don't have upfront payment on my patreon (and use a pay-per-release model), I do it this way to avoid having people sign up, download, and immediately cancel - it's a convenience perk for people who support my work (as most maps are free anyways) and seemed the most fair way to do things for everyone. I'd suggest downloading a map or two directly, by following the links above, for the first couple encounters you plan to run; by then I should have my next map out and you'll have access to the whole set at once!

Ian

So now that I've decided to join up, how will the file share link be sent out? Will that come as an email thing, or is there a different way to get access to the more simple way of getting everything downloaded?
