Community post #6: being a divinator

Today I'm touching a very important side of Iulius' psychology that I still haven't talked about yet in the art we've made:  the importance of divination magic in his life. 

Marcus and Iulius' story is set in a fantasy world where divination magic exists. The setting itself is heavily inspired by Italy's history, especially Ancient Rome, where divination was widely practiced by holy people, priests and priestesses.

In our story, divination is a gift: magic users are rare, and diviners (called divinators in the setting) are even more rare. So rare, in fact, that they're considered unique and blessed by the Gods, who have chosen divinators to bridge the gap between their Will and the mortal world. 

Divination manifests through visions and those can be different according to the soothsayer themself; Iulius practices oniromancy (the art of predicting the future through dreams), reads animal guts and can interpret omens by observing how lightning manifests during thunderstorms. 

Like all divinators before him, Iulius discovered this gift as a child. Being aware that the future was already written, for him and everyone else around him, caused Iulius to mature faster than his peers. 

His powers shaped him and his personality further, causing him to:

- become a fatalist;

- do very risky things and put himself in danger without any fear: he knows he's going to get out of those situations;

-  become detached from reality: he observes the world around him kinda coldly, always wondering if what he's seeing is something he's already interpreted. He's way too analytical of anything that surrounds him;

- take the blame even when it's not his fault: whenever something bad happens, he wonders if he could've predicted it and prevent it from happening.

So being a divinator, for him, isn't easy at all. He kinda got used to it during the years, but it's still something that affects him on a daily basis.
