The Blessed Week Off

Friends:

It's my monthly week "off" where I do things like payroll and taxes, the detestable parts of being a small business. As necessary as these breaks off, I wouldn't be able to take them at all without the support of my Patrons.

And the work goes on. You probably remember the tool chest I found in my parents' barn. (I made a Patron exclusive video about it.) I've written an article about it for the upcoming issue of Quercus magazine. You can subscribe to Quercus or buy single issues from Tools for Working Wood . It's really a fantastic magazine.

We just wrapped up the most recent Workbench Session with the editors of Mortise and Tenon Magazine. It was amazing; Josh and Mike are such knowledgeable and enthusiastic fellows and so willing to share. Next month's guest is....big. Almost too big. I'll have  that announcement for you soon.

I also have at least 2 long-term projects in the works; big builds that will help you in your shop. I think I'll have both done before year's end. We'll see.

Until next week, I wish everyone health, safety and prosperity. Get in a little shop time. Treat yourself.

Sometimes I want my business to run at a net loss so the tax return is simpler. But that doesn't work well.

Martin Hartley

Schartz, Sellers! I'd also really, really be stoked for Roy Underhill!

Roger A Tubbs

Maybe some sort of MuppetMan mashup of both Chris AND Paul where they are stacked on top of each other behind a giant shop apron but they have four arms? Is that close Rex?

Eric Paisley

You're not kidding about the tax-man!

Rex Krueger

You're in the ball-park.....

Rex Krueger

Man, these quarterly payments are a killer!

Rex Krueger

Back atcha!

Rex Krueger

I'll try. Promise!

Rex Krueger

You've got the idea!@

Rex Krueger

It won't disappoint!

Rex Krueger

I really appreciate that!

Rex Krueger

Rex would get frustrated and throw something. It doesn't happen on camera, but it happens.

Rex Krueger

And I'm glad you're here!

Rex Krueger

I also try to emulate it!

Rex Krueger

I did both those things!

Rex Krueger

Thank goodness you are taking the week off Rex. It will give me time to actually catch up on some tasks around the shop. It seems the hurrier I go the behind I get. Take care, have fun, but get your taxes done because those guys have no sense of humor.

Matt Evans-Koch

Definitely. A lovely melodic English voice. And the skill with which he moves a chisel through wood!

Col Rodrick

Christopher Schwarz big? Paul Sellers big? Actually, Sellers would be HUGE.

Hansenomics

Thank you for saying the word "taxes" or I would never have remembered to email my accountant, Rex! Thank you!

Helanya

Thumbs up emoji.

Really enjoyed the Mortis & Tenon fellows - enthusiasm plus and infectious. Keep smiling.

The wood chest your holding from your parents barn in this shot looks like it's put together in a similar fashion to a military wooden crate. There normally made of pine board, painted for durability and either have wood slats or rope for handles. In theory, one could build a rugged tool chest in a few hours with minimal skill required. Maybe add add slats inside for strengths for also to add slider tills that hold smaller tools.

Enjoy your time. The workbench sessions have been awesome. I am excited already on your next guest.

Too big is in the eyes of the beholder. Looking forward to the announcement. Tenon was amazing as expected. You're killing it.
