Hypotheticals for ep.111

Some long, brain wrinkling questions courtesy of Reddit this morning. Choose wisely...

Option A

The government has banned pornography, everywhere.

This government is not our current one, it is a global empire. Nevermind how it started, it’s here, it controls every state (except for a few “dark areas” that are rapidly closing), and it has the sole military and police forces of the world.

Technically, pornography has been illegal for some time, but the law was unenforceable until just now, and people usually laughed at it. It barely even merited protest, next to the other restrictions it enforced.

The government has achieved complete surveillance of the internet through artificial intelligence, and even of its own enforcement officers through cameras and overlapping inspector bureaus. The police are afraid to not do what they are told, regardless of their opinion of the matter.

If pornography is viewed online, chances are very high the government will know, in a relatively short period of time. The data will be deleted. Your encryption and proxies are nothing next to the government’s AI. Your device itself might already be modified to turn you in.

Offenses are fines at first, unless you actually create the porn, then it is escalated to forced labour, internment, and eventually could result in brain washing after repeat offenses.

Offenders are put on an anaphrodisiac to stem sexual desire. The drug is experimental and non-optional. It is free and optional to anyone who wants to “quit.”

The government does this for a variety of reasons, including connections to human trafficking, supposed psychological damage, and “lost productivity and reproductive health.”

The government had, until now, offered a great deal of license in communication and debate about public policy, and even protected right to protest. Pressure has made this government bend slightly in the past, and had won many things, including international worker rights on top of other social service guarantees. The government does not seem to bend at all on this issue, uses force to make protests go away, and it almost seems to indicate a broader policy shift. However, aside from increased enforcement potential, nothing seems to have changed.

What would you do? You can answer from multiple perspectives.

Option B

You get a bite sized portion of every single restaurant in the world. is that enough to sustain you for the rest of your life?

The food never goes bad, and will always taste fresh

You will not get a bite sized portion of every dish, only a single item for every restaurant.

So, a random bite sized portion of a Burger from every McDonald's/burger king etc you get the idea

Is that going to be enough food for the rest of your life?

Option C

You find someone suspended but asleep like in some sort of cryo chamber. A note says, if more than 30 years have passed, don't wake me up. A nearby machine shows this person has been in there for over 800 years. Do you wake them up?

Comments

A is so long I've not read it and have voted for it so that you can read it to me during the podcast. Thank you for you assistance

Option C is such an interesting concept, I can’t wait!
