Yes! We are currently doing a Delgado Masterthon, with something else every other time, and we checked out Colony pretty recently. Really enjoying Jo so far! :) She is great!

Speaking of sand people, has your brother shown you Colony In Space with the Third Doctor yet? There's a pretty obvious inspiration for them in that serial!

Man I cannot WAIT for the next couple of episodes to drop. Please don't apologize for talking and sharing your thoughts - that's what we're here for! We love your "waffle" and your references and everything you bring to the table.

One small thing in this episode I like is Toph’s reaction to Aang in the avatar state because, this is the first time she sees that. And she’s totally dumbfounded.

Veggie please stop apologizing for the long intros. I'm here because I want to hear your thoughts. If I didn't want your commentary I would just go watch Avatar on my own. This episode is sad but Aang's behavior is understandable. He's 12 years old and already lost so much. Appa is pretty much all he has left of his life before his nap in the iceberg. Yes Bumi is still alive and Momo is a descendent of the lemurs he knew but its not the same. Appa was with Aang when he went into the ice and has been with him this whole time. He's acting out like a child because he is. I like that we see him as a child that is upset and not just the playful carefree happy go lucky kid we've seen so far. It makes him seem more real. Yes he is the Avatar but he is still a human with human emotions.

Is it the next two episodes that are double? I bellive so,,that by mistanke they made next episode a two parter without it actually being one.

So glad you also gave Katara your appreciation this episode, so many people pick Katara as their least fave of the group but she is incredible, and it doesnt deel like it becuase we havent spent that much time in it so far but the desert is huge... I dont even know if Aang could make it out flying without becoming dehydrated and severely ill, without Katara their chances of surviving getting out of the desert at all are significantly reduced! Plus, she was so calm and focused and kind with Aang, she didnt take anything personally and she didnt feel resentment over being the only one focused on getting out alive, she took it all on her shoulders and kept everyone together when so many others wouldve fallen apart, turned on eachother, and probably not survived! Also, Sokka and Momo are iconic 🥲

Rey's Got Plans

I know others have already said this, but Aang’s demeanor and choices here are first off, totally in line with an insanely powerful child who is still learning emotional intelligence and just had someone extremely close and important to him stolen. And secondly, at the same time, they are intentionally quite chilling as Aang is from a culture that deeply values and respects life, to the point of being generally vegetarian (Aang himself has stated he doesn’t eat meat). Shocking? Yes. Sad? Extremely. Scary? For sure. So out of left field that it’s unrealistic? Given the circumstances, sadly no. And all of that together is why this show is SO GOOD UGH

Great episode love Iroh playing some cards up his sleeve. Aang giving hints of the avatar states wrath is chilling but cool in all of that my favourite reaction is Tophs she is used to Aang being this cheery chap with talent but so passive and she has never been presence for the avatar state before now she hears him and likely senses that raw power and rage while her face just shows shock bording on fear

There are 20 episodes in Book 1, 20 in Book 2, and 21 in Book 3. That means this episode (31st overall) is the exact midpoint of the series. Its also a massive turning point for Aang but in what ways we will see in the coming weeks. Also, I need to shout this out as an absolute top tier Katara episode.

I won't get too into detail, because it will be explored a little further soon, but if you remember, Aang called appa his animal guide, in Book 1, Ch. 7 The Winter Solstice Pt. 1. Every avatar has one, so when Aang went into avatar state after hearing appa was muzzled, it's because every past avatar completely understood his pain at that moment.
