Buffy Fridays! Season 7 Episode 6 Reaction!

For me, I think the season has too much character regression, every episode just feels inconsequential, and I really don't like a lot of the stuff that happens later. I do think it's funny that so many people are somehow even a little bit shocked that a Joss Whedon show wouldn't cover rape well, but I digress. Also, yes, the show used the word. We were "allowed" to use that word back before high sensitivity, and that's how these teen/young adult shows used to refer to these situations. This episode reminds me way too much of the earlier love spell episode, and really just seems like lazy fill in writing.

But I always get a great laugh out of this episode, my favorite scene is Buffy with the rocket launcher 🤣 I enjoy this season. It has a lot of great episodes but I do think it’s my least favorite season but the reasons why are still considered spoilers.

2026-01-11 10:09:06 +0000 UTCDawn: "I don't get why people bother with all the being in love and being in a relationship" My aro-ace brain: "I really feel you there Dawnie...welcome to the club!😅" Dawn *starts drooling ofer RJ basically immediately* Me: "Well, I guess that was a pretty short membership🙈😂" To give my thoughts on the episode: Tl dr: The episode has some quite good comedic moments. However I don't like how it handels the concept of love spells and attraction. So I think it is overall a bad episode.😕 To elaborate: I thought the comedic moments were actually mostly funny. Especially Buffy and Spike fighting over the rocket launcher was great!😂 That said, I don't like how lightly the episode takes the concept of SA via love potion. And I especially dislike the point where Xander admits wanting to use the jacket (one of the many moments that really don't make me like Xander in the last few seasons😕). I also think it is a very sad tell of the times that the show couldn't admit that it would make sense for Willow to be attracted to RJ, since she is clearly Bi (and not gay) based on the canonic relationship she had with Oz. But I guess it was just to soon to acknowledge that "these people" are also real and valid.😕 It also creates a whole question of why the jacket works on women that like women but not on men that like women...but I guess the show doesn't want us to think about it that way🙃 So all in all

2026-01-11 06:58:28 +0000 UTCYeah it isn't really clear wheter he knew or not. To me it felt like he probably did. Mainly because: a) He pretty much immediately started to put on the jacket when he had the talk with Buffy (implying he knew that would solve the situation). b) He didn't seem perturbed at all by her sudden change in demeanor in that same conversation (further implying he expected the change). That said: It could probably be argued that he just thought the Jacket made him look really sexy without actually understanding that it was full on magic and mind controll...wich woul make it at least a tiny bit less icky🤷♂️

2026-01-11 06:46:23 +0000 UTCTo be honest I totaly though the first scene was another one of Spikes delusions where he hopped that Buffy would be nice to him. So I totally expected it to suddendly cuting back to him still sitting in the basement🙈😅

2026-01-10 07:01:31 +0000 UTCDefinitely one of the funniest eps! It has never been established one way or another whether RJ knew the power of the jacket. I think it is implied that RJ's father was the one who 'created' it.

2026-01-10 03:20:46 +0000 UTCFun bit of Trivia: In BtVS Season 2 Episode 4 "Inca Mummy Girl", Devon asks Oz, "What does a girl have to do to impress you?" Oz: "It has to do with a feather boa and 'The Theme From A Summer Place'." That's the music that plays when the girls first see RJ with the jacket on.

2026-01-10 02:57:03 +0000 UTCDid you spot that Dawn was wearing Buffy’s old cheerleader costume from Season 1? It’s a nice full circle moment and it’s funny how quickly the fashions change!

2026-01-10 00:26:00 +0000 UTCThis episode was deranged 😂 I didn't hate it, but it's definitely not one I remembered from back in the day or have ever bothered to re-watch since. There were some hilarious moments, though, and some of your reactions also were so funny, Veggie! Seems like this must just be a filler ep to get us through to the meatier part of season 7, but I don't honestly remember. I don't think there was even much relationship-building or anything happening outside of the love spell stuff, except for Spike moving in with Xander and them having to team up at the end, but the writers didn't spend much time on that so 🤷♀️ Kinda wish we'd gotten a bit more of that and less of the ick-ier scenes. Edited to add: I guess we did get a tidbit of Anya / D'Hoffryn info, too, but not a lot.

2026-01-09 23:35:53 +0000 UTCI think this episode is pretty funny, myself. Especially the Spike and Xander team-up where their 'plan' is just to grab the jacket and run. XD

2026-01-09 22:33:54 +0000 UTCOh, also, that piece of music that plays when the spell hits them, always makes me think of this Simpsons moment and chuckle, lol https://youtu.be/4OhkhBwrK_w?si=7Uqr5_LLXnM5tME8
