Merry Christmas, guys!! 🎄

Here is the 2nd Place Winner of the Christmas Poll! MY GOODNESS it was a close run thing, so I am so sorry if this isn't one you voted on, we will cover the others in the future! :)

So I was told that this movie 'wasn't for me'... but I bloomin' loved its! XD (actually)

Really invested in all the different characters and their stories! Almost screams for a sequel (which I am pretty sure there isn't one..).

Which story line is your favourite?
I really hope you enjoy the reaction and are having a great day if you celebrate Christmas or not! Love you guys! (actually)

This is one of mine and my mom's favourite Christmas movies, we love the story with Jamie and Aurelia so much! Because you didn't have subtitles you wouldn't have seen this, but right after the two of them jump into the lake and Jamie says "It's my favourite time of day, driving you," she says "It's the saddest part of my day, leaving you." and my mom and I get very emotional. Also Emma Thompson's scene after opening her gift is heartbreaking and so beautiful, she doesn't even need to say anything. Also knowing Andrew Lincoln from the Walking Dead and seeing him in this is a little insane lol

There sort of is an unofficial sequel that they did for Red Nose Day if you wanted to check that out I’m sure it’s on YouTube somewhere.

There was a red nose day short in 2017 that stops back in with some of the characters if you're interested in watching that! It's called 'Red Nose Day actually' I don't know how easy it would be to find but I have a copy of it if you'd be interested in watching :)

My favourite story is the liam neeson one, such an incredible father and son relationship. But the Alan rickman and Emma Thomson had to be the best acted. I didn’t even watch the movie - I just listened to your reactions and relived the movie in my head - and I was still crying!

Merry Christmas Veggie! Jordan commented all the important bits already. Great that you liked the movie! And I agree Emma Thompsons performance is incredible. She makes me cry every time.

When uploading to Youtube, don´t forget to switch the titles again Veggie! This one reads as the Deleted Scene of Muppet Cristmas Carol ^^ Merry Christmas!

If you enjoyed this film (which it seems you did), I hope you'll react to more Richard Curtis films in the future. They're all similar comedy-wise and always star classic British actors, and I think you'd enjoy them. Some of my faves are About Time, The Boat That Rocked, and Notting Hill. He also does Bridget Jones. Merry Christmas to you, Veggie <3

So sorry about that Lime! Yeah I was thinking it was odd they weren't hard coded! :(

Merry Christmas! And yes, there are supposed to be subtitles. They’re actually quite funny and worth going back to read them if you find the time.

Lime Pie

Great reaction. Hope you have had a great Christmas

I have a big soft spot for it this film. Some of the plotlines work better for me than others, but when it hits it hits. Emma Thompson's performance is the standout; it's so heartbreaking to see her trying to put on a brave face for the sake of her family after her Harry's betrayal. I think it's an important ambiguity that we don't know whether or not he actually slept with Mia - we're in the same position as Karen, unsure how deep the infidelity goes. Unfortunately, Emma was actually cheated on on real life by her then-husband Kenneth Brannagh in the 90's, and it shaped her performance: “I had my heart very badly broken by Ken. So I knew what it was like to find the necklace that wasn’t meant for me. Well, it wasn’t exactly that, but we’ve all been through it...I’ve had so much bloody practice at crying in a bedroom, then having to go out and be cheerful, gathering up the pieces of my heart and putting them in a drawer." I also love the Sarah/Karl story; it's very bittersweet, but I appreciate that the film doesn't shy away from some of the more mundane realities, and in a film about love it's good to have a lot of perspectives on it. Sometimes it doesn't all work out how we dreamed. But Sarah loves her brother, despite the hardship. Liam Neeson and Sam's relationship is so cute and well-acted by both of them. As much fun as they chase through the airport is, the love between stepfather and son is what I enjoy most about their story. And yes, the woman he gets with at the end is played by model Claudia Schiffer. It's a shame your version didn't have the subtitles for the Jaime story - normally they're baked into the film and I'm not sure why they weren't there for you. You missed out on some of their cuter exchanges and jokes. They have a tendency to be saying the same thing to eachother without realising - to paraphrase, as I can't remember the exact wording, here are some examples: - "It's my favourite time of day, driving you" / "It's the saddest part of my day, leaving you". - "Maybe you could name a character after me, and give me 50% of the profits" / "I'll name a character after you, and give you 5% of the profits". At the end, he's gone there with the intention to ask her to marry him, but his Portuguese is a bit mangled, and as they're walking through town, Aurelia's sister is telling passersby that her father is going to "sell Aurelia to this Englishman", then that gets twisted into people being told that "this Englishman's going to kill Aurelia!" They don't get a lot of time to develop, but they're one of my favourite pairings. Fun fact about Rowan Atkinson, the original plan was originally supposed to be an angel, which is why he was deliberately wrapping the present so slowly, in order to prevent Alan Rickman from buying the necklace, and why he stepped in to help Sam at the airport. It's funny you should talk about a sequel, as there was a Red Nose Day short made in 2017 that picks up with the characters over a decade on. Unfortunately, Alan Rickman had passed away the year before, rest in peace, so Emma Thompson doesn't return. She said: "Richard (Richard Curtis, writer and director) wrote to me and said, ‘Darling, we can’t write anything for you because of Alan,’ and I said, ‘No, of course, it would be sad, too sad". It was a lot of fun watching this with you: your reactions were brilliant :) Merry Christmas Veggie 🎄💜🎄
