Movie Watcher Reads Harry Potter For the First Time! - Goblet of Fire Chapters 30 & 31!

IT'S THE SPOOKY-IST BOOK REVIEW OF THE YEAR!! 👻

Hi guys! We are back with the next part of the Goblet of Fire Book review! And this episode may contain my favourite chapter from it so far (it is SO good)!

We also navigate The Third Task, which is a world away from the movie version. This definitely feels like one of the most egregious changes for you guys, and I can see why!

Another 5 hour special! And next month, you will be getting another Harry Potter themed video too (I tease what it is in the video :) ).

Love you, guys! Have a great weekend!

Tbf the in-universe reason why the destruction of the time-turners is brought up is to give HRH an "excuse" for not being able to continue care for magical creatures classes in 6th year. I don't think it's meant to signify that *every* time-turner in the world has been destroyed, more likely all those in Great Britain, there might be more in other countries but HRH would not have access to those (even if they wanted to). I agree that it is meant for the reader so they don't question why time-turners are not used again, even though they couldn't be used to fix past events, only to create chaos with multiple copies of the same character getting involved in the same event. I personnaly don't mind time-travel being used once and never again, and I don't think the characters would try using it again anyway. As for the veil, my headcannon after reading the books was also that it had been moved there, but I admit that the idea of people carrying it while being very careful to not accidentally go through it is kinda funny.

Not gonna lie here: i think you are giving Rowling too much credit :) the pensieve was a means to give the ready exposition that no in wold would give. just like the truth potion in a few chapters. give it to fake Mad Eye to get the exposition, but not Harry to confirm hit info about Voldemort. do not get my wrong i like the story as a hole, but JKR is a lazy author that clearly did not plan ahead. she just worked the best she could with what was already stated, and ignored the stuff they would be a problem (I.E. time travel). then she post hac explained why the problem is not a problem in a book or the wiki when readers point it out. again the time travel. why did they not use a timeturner to stop the resurrection of Voldemort? time does not work that way, the time line is set so what you did you always did buckbeak never died. even when in book dialog counteracts that. then lets destroy the timeturner "in Order of The Phoenix" and mention it in a latter book. we are to believe every timeturner in the world was at the ministry that night? sorry about the rant done now.

I can only second that! Considering how much time theses videos must take I think that once a month is a really good pace! And I have to say that I really like the book clubs comming out regularly towards the end of the month lately. It means I always know that I have something to look forward to😊

Diego Zenhäusern

I definitely like that idea!

Not gonna lie here: The pensieve beeing a "one of a kind item" really feels like an addendum of Rowling after she realized that it would have so many uses and could also create plotholes if it were commonly available. And so instead of admitting not having thought about it she just decided to make it a one of a kind item.🤷🏼‍♂️😅

"I always assumed the Veil of Death had been moved there." - how would you carry it without at least parts of your body passing through? "...different for the veil as it is a piece of architecture..." - is it? is the arch part of it or just a place to hang the veil. make the veil, hang it, then activate it. now it is stuck there. unless you move the hole stand as suggested.

Garfnob

"I don't really consider the stuff that was added after the fact to be on the same level of cannon as the contents of the books." agreed, i was more using it to confirm it is The Pensieve, not a Pensieve.

Garfnob

Apologies for the length of my comment. They were chunky chapters and there was a lot to mention. I did intend to cut it down but you snuck in before I could do so. I'll try not to repeat what other people said in future.

S1lm4r1l

I always assumed the Veil of Death had been moved there.

S1lm4r1l

I guess it's different for the veil as it is a piece of architecture that can't really be moved unless by carving out the base. The pensieve is an object that can be moved around much more easily. As for why they would build Hogwarts there, it could just be for a symbolic reason rather than a necessity of having it exactly on this spot. Tbh I don't really consider the stuff that was added after the fact to be on the same level of cannon as the contents of the books. I certainly do not consider the Cursed Child to be cannon for example.

Was listening to you talk about All Creatures Great and Small and walked into the staff canteen and it’s on tv! Never saw it in work before, but realised that Peter Davidson who you mentioned as an early Dr Who plays ‘Fudges’ younger brother in the show so perhaps it would have been a nice call back for him to play Fudge now 🙂

Mary

The collaboration would be great. I hope it can happen.

why would JKR state is was found on the Hogwarts site if it could be moved? where it was found would not be important. also, the vale of death was found at the site of the ministry, and i do not think that one can be moved. wizards apparently like to build as sites of artifacts.

Garfnob

We know in the next book that it can at least be moved to a different place in the castle (when Snape uses it to conceal some of his memories during Harry's occlumency lessons). I assume it could be moved out of Hogwarts if necessary, but I guess we'll never know for sure.

Gerald the gorilla The wizard trail is basically an analogy to the Nuremberg trails and how severely they treated sentencing, they are still trying people today over what they did back then for the most menial involvement, the recent bookkeeper they've been trying is a good example, reading a letter in a paper someone was saying that their father was glad the bookkeeper was on trail and should be executed for keeping records for the Nazis and bragged that he would never have done a thing like that if they had been in the same position until their daughter pointed out that during the seventies strikes in the UK he had refused to cross the picket lines even though he wanted to all because of the reputational damage it would have caused him so he would be hardly likely to stand up and be counted if death is the outcome. Also regarding snape, Voldamort would not have trusted him as much as he did had he not carried some pretty brutal deatheater tasks, remember that a lot of the scientists that worked for the Nazis doing inhumane experiments on the Jewish prisoners were pardoned and given research and grants in the US and elsewhere as the were deemed too useful to kill. Have to say a feel sorry for woozle. it's no wonder he is nervous around other dog's as it must be really hard when theyre telling each other about their owners and he has to tell them how his owner is unfortunately insane and spends hours at a time locked in a room taking to himself.

Harry didn't mention Frank to Dumbledore for the same reason he didn't mention Bertha Jorkins. He doesn't remember their names from the "dream." For him, they are in no way connected with the summer vision.

Ирина Устюгова

Oh I never took it as "he didn't care"-care... I think it was more like "he wouldn't make that kind of investment in a stranger muggle"... My theory goes more along the lines of Dumbledore buying the Riddle Mansion because of how significant it is to Voldemort's history 🙂 Sorry if I worded it wrong ❤️

the pensieve is a one of a kind item, so all your ideas of how to use it are good but not practical. from the wiki it was found on the site where Hogwarts was built. do not think it is in the wiki if it can be moved away or not.

Garfnob

just a comment about Watership Down, i saw it when i was like 7 or 8. I think it was not the best age to watch that.

What a great start of the weekend! These reactions are always such a treat! I haven't finished watching yet but just came to when you talked about that gravity reversal and had to skip to the reaction to my comment :) So interesting to hear you have similar experience with this! Before I googled a few days ago when writing the comment in the bookclub I thought I was the only one. I didn't want to go into too much detail in the book club to keep it shorter, but as I said it is very mild for me. I think it came from when I was a kid playing and messing around in the playground on like monkey bars and a broken slide - a few times I would end up in this weird contorted position hanging by my arms upper body upside down, but feet still on the ground, while staring into the sky which in that position felt like being below me - which created this weird sensation that if I let go just then I would fall into the sky. Which made me freeze and I couldn't get out of it without closing my eyes (similar to how Harry dealt with it I now realised!) and I think once my sister had to help me cause I wouldn't let go. Since then it doesn't really impact me in every day life, unless very rarely on some occasions when remembering that sensation and imagining that possibility while staring at the sky. Plus I never watched the Gravity movie cause only the trailer triggered me. And this scene in the book. So I'm lucky I have it pretty good really! I was reading other people's experiences though when I googled it and it seems to differ quite a lot both in severity and in triggers - some similar to you with tall buildings, many the opposite with open skies on a cloudless day, or when they feel they are closer to the sky on airplanes or high up in the mountains. Anyway continuing with the video now, thanks for the entertainment, these book club videos always make my day!

Ooh you’re going to the studio tour? That’s awesome, I hope you have a great time 🥳 I went a few years ago and loved it. Prepare to spend all your money in the gift shop 😂

Tiegan

I will catch up next time 🫡

LouShirley

I also wanted to say that, would definitely good to put a spoiler barrier when commenting someting on a book club.

Jonas (Methanoutput)

that's perfect - I can listen while packing for the Studio Tour, yay

Dara Jeeling

The favorite time of the month is here! It's weird that Patreon shows the first reply in the book club. They can be hidden by pressing "load replies" and then "collapse" replies, but probably a bit annoying to do on every comment. Maybe if the first person to reply to a comment wishes to discuss something spoilery they could first post an empty comment and then follow it up with their real comment.

Hairy Pothead

Even though I never really comment I want you to know how much I always look forward to these. Hope you had a good Halloween, if you celebrate it. 😄

Ian

Veggie since you always say that you are sorry about your deadlines (the last post) I just want to say you are enough, you are loved and you should not stress yourself when your content is a 4-6 hour ish video 😊

Jonas (Methanoutput)

Fantastic I finish work in 45 mins, awesome start to the weekend Veggie 😀

Liz

Perfect timing!!! :D
