Buffy Fridays! Season 5 Episode 19 First Time Reaction!
Added 2024-09-20 16:56:29 +0000 UTCHi guys! Just wanted to declare that I did talk over a fairly important line in this one. I was able to understand where the scene was going though, and listened back at the end. So sorry about this! It does happen from time to time and I do try to avoid it!

####### EPISODE SPOILER REVIEW BELOW! APPARENTLY SOME OF YOU ARE WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME ALONG SIDE ME, SO PLEASE DON'T READ BEYOND THIS POINT UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE EPISODE YOURSELF! ######
------
Poor Tara... :( Gutted for her and I hope we can get her back, somehow (sadly, I don't see it happening right now...).
It was so good to hear how Willow was feeling in this one. Even I give her a hard time about the whole 'Joyce' thing, but she expresses what she is going through really well here, and I feel bad for it.
I bloomin' LOVE that Dawn was with Tara at the end of the episode, especially after what she admitted to Spike. Such good stuff.
So I am guessing that the next episode will just a filler and a Solid Side-Quest...
Only joking. XD WHAT a cliffhanger! I literally can't see how they get out of this one!!
Hope you guys are having a great week!
As always, if you click the video just after this post, you may need to download it first. This should be fixed in a couple of hours!

A while back you asked what people's first episode of Buffy was--this, of all episodes, was mine! It's an objectively terrible episode to start with, lol. It's a good episode, but SO far into the season, not like a nice friendly 'solid side quest' to ease me into the show! I had absolutely no idea what was happening, but it was somehow still so compelling, I was hooked :)

2025-05-02 06:48:19 +0000 UTCIdefinitely agree with your point on a thematic level here. But I also can not imagine that trying to fix Tara with magic could have ended in anything else but tragedy (like it would with trying to bring someone back from the dead)...so I'm actually glad she didn't even think of trying that🙈🤔

2024-09-24 18:53:34 +0000 UTCMatilda is great! I hate the way they've changed Willow since a little after she started college. My nerdy self loved her in high school, but now she's one of my least favorite characters. Also, Dawn? You don't know if someone likes tuna but you choose to get her a tuna sandwich when there are other options? That's definitely a choice. Tuna is way too polarizing of a food to just go with it when there are other options.

2024-09-21 17:19:13 +0000 UTCPreferring s1 is definitely unusual but a lot of people prefer s1-3, they just won't be online watching reactions (or won't beyond then) so you're less likely to hear from them. I have to remind myself of this constantly lol. I'm with you on s6. I can appreciate individual episodes but overall....

2024-09-21 13:09:35 +0000 UTCWillow’s an idiot. Obviously everyone can understand her being angry and upset but yet again she thinks she’s better at magic than she is and that magic can fix everything, no matter how many times that’s been proven wrong. The fact that her first instinct with magic was vengeance not trying to get Tara’s mind back shows how bad magic is for Willow and that she is getting darker all the time, cause I’m pretty sure healing Tara would have been the most important thing back when she first started using magic, but the thought didn’t even enter her mind now.

2024-09-21 05:37:08 +0000 UTCMiss Minchin’s Select Seminary for Girls is one of my favorite references in all of Buffy. It refers to the boarding school Sara Crewe is sent to (and mistreated at) in A Little Princess, a book I read often growing up.

2024-09-20 20:58:23 +0000 UTCYou're right Georgia, there was one man either being collected or moved to another ward... Definitely a rare event though! To be fair, I've only seen season 7 all the way through once and it does have one of my favourite space cowboys in it so maybe I'll appreciate it more next time, but season 6 and the season-long question of consent just makes me extremely uncomfortable. Can't put my finger on why I don't like 4 and 5 as much... Maybe the change from the school setting? 🤔

2024-09-20 19:47:32 +0000 UTCI have always absolutely loved the spell that Willow recites as she floats towards Glory. Well done to the writers, because it is so on point for what Willow is trying to do. The deities/spirits/energies Willow calls on are Kali, Hera, Cronus, Cthonic, and Cassiel. Kali has her destroyer form, but is also known as a Goddess who destroys evil to protect the innocent; in Greek mythology Hera is known for her, some would say, almost insane levels of vindictiveness towards those who crossed her, also worshipped as a protector of marriages; Cronus castrated his own father with a scythe, and is sometimes seen as the personification of death; Cthonic refers to the Greek underworld in general, and Cassiel is an extracanonical angel from Hebrew, Islamic and Christian mysticism, who is known as 'Wrath of God', sometimes viewed as the Angel of Death, and in some texts is described as the 'Angel of Tears'. That's a mighty powerful arsenal right there that Willow's calling upon.

2024-09-20 19:43:30 +0000 UTCThat is an unpopular opinion I think!! I love 4-7 more than 1-3 even though those high school seasons are so iconic. I still love season 1 but it’s my least rewatched. I feel like one episode we see one of Glory’s victims being taken home by their family though, right? Maybe I imagined that. But definitely main character syndrome, none of the other victims had their family or friends coming to collect them lol?

2024-09-20 19:24:54 +0000 UTCRe: the schedule - honestly, I expect nobody's going to complain about going straight through to the end of Buffy S5,.. The complaints will be with the wait for Buffy S6 while you finish out Angel season 2, and start Angel season 3 (because it premiered BEFORE Buffy season 6 due the network change). I'm here for both and love them both, so you won't get any gripes from me. :D We are in for a ride for the next few weeks regardless!!

2024-09-20 19:08:08 +0000 UTCPersonally I prefer season 1-3 to most of 4-7, although I do seem to be the exception rather than the norm. This is only my third watch through. The rest of Glory's victims end up in the hospital, but Tara doesn't... Must be an unfortunate case of main character syndrome!

2024-09-20 19:01:34 +0000 UTCThis episode is so stressful even though I do still really enjoy it. Seeing a more extreme version of Willow and her magics is so cool !!!! I’m so sad for Tara, she’s so sweet and caring, it’s so unfair. Loved your reaction and can’t wait to see what you think of the next few !!!
