Hi guys!  WHAT an episode!! Top tier definitely!! Went in a completely different way than I was expecting, and, though the ending broke my heart I am VERY excited to see what is to come with our new 'heel'.

Some of the most emotional AND funny moments so far, I can definitely see why you guys keep saying there are great episodes to come!  This was definitely one of the very best so far!

As always, if you click the link shortly after this is posted, you may need to download the video to watch.  This should be fixed in a few hours! :)

Love you, guys!  Have a great weekend!  There may be a certain movie reaction coming very soon! ;)

(Not Buffy, sorry.  The Crimes of Grindalwald! XD)

Buffy Fridays! Season 2 Episode 14 First Time Reaction!

Thank you dearly for watching this series. I'm so glad that there are people still discovering the wonders of Buffy. THANK YOU!

Grace

Perfect explanation.

The cold open doesn't make much sense, if vampires don't have breath then how did Angel puff out smoke like that? Continuity is more important than looking badass! XD

I think one important detail to mention, because it is easy to miss, is that it wasn't the 'climax' that took angels soul, it was the afterglow. I think there is an important distinction to make between conflating coitus with happiness and understand that Angel was happy because he just shared an extremely intimate moment with the person he loved and then he went to sleep in her Arms, feeling truly happy. THAT is what took his soul.

That is so awesome!

Yeah, I've seen like the first 1 and a half season a few years ago (this and the last two episodes where the first episodes I hadn't seen at all, though I'd also forgotten A LOT of the "smaller" plot twists in previous episodes😅) but I somehow dropped the ball and never got back into it🙈... So I took Veggie watching the show as an excuse/ motivation to give the show another try. And I certainly wasn't dissapointed so far...especially since watching it along with others also helped me notice a lot of the subtleties of the show.🙂

Diego Zenhäusern

Diego... Does this mean you're also watching the show for the first time? It's awesome if you are. I'll just try to remember that so as to not spoil anything for you in my replies. :) But, yeah, Angel's story took a turn. Freddie

Frederique Gillespie

Wow Angel's story certainly took a turn I wasn't expecting😮. But I really enjoyed this episode!

I’m not sure the gang were happy about having to “pick up the pieces”. So many great lines in this one. Evil Angel is a great villain. And I agree the David Boreanaz did a great job 👏 What a tragic episode for Buffy.

Garry (Not Jerry)

That’s a useful link. Thanks

It took me a minute to get what you meant by serious Xander - because even though that's an actual phrase that makes sense, I kept getting the fandoms mixed up and hearing Sirius Xander because I can somehow make anything nerdier.

Every time I watch this episode I see or hear something new. Like just now when Jenny says to Giles "Don't talk like that, Rupert, the kids..." I mean... maybe I'm reading too much into it, but that sounds quite domestic. I like it. Also, if you had the DVDs, you remember all those clips they would play when you would change menus? "We're going to destroy the world... want to come?" was definitely one of them.

There’s so much good stuff in this episode, it actually feels longer. This is 9/10 for me. It still is outshined by a few later episodes for me, but it’s definitely up there. It’s hard seeing Buffy so upset but she is also such a badass in this episode, fighting through the pain. Especially the scene where she is walking away from Angel through the “rain”, “Give me time.” I actually understand the irrationality of Willow because while she might not have the right to give Xander grief for who he dates, Cordelia has basically picked on both of them for many years. Especially Willow, if we remember from the first episode. It feels like a betrayal on both sides, she’s obviously hurt romantically but it’s insulting to their friendship as well. It’s not completely reasonable but I actually like that because they are teenagers and they aren’t going to act in the right way so it’s realistic to me for Willow to be kind of all over the place about it. I do think with the way she said “Oz has a van” and like makes a face, she was trying to make Xander a bit jealous. Giles and Jenny are breaking my heart too but Giles siding with Buffy on it shows how deeply he cares for her. No matter how many times I rewatch, Buffy pinning Jenny to the desk always shocks me!! Love my unhinged woman ❤️ Also, Buffy and Giles father daughter moment in the car hurts my heart, I love them. Hate to say it but Angel being evil makes him so much more interesting lol. Can’t wait for what’s to come!!!

Hello! There are crossover episodes with the Buffy and Angel series, and there is a watch order to them, but you don't even have to think about this until *after* Buffy Season 3 ends. I have the site link. If you don't want to read titles of episodes (there are no explanations of them, but some of the titles might be a little spoiler-ish), just scroll down until you see a column that says "Buffy Season 4" next to a column that says "Angel Season 1." When you are ready to begin Angel (at the end of Buffy Season 3), the episodes highlighted in red are the matching crossover episodes, and the episodes are numbered in the order of watching (57, 58, 59, etc.) Hopefully it will make more sense when you see the columns than my paltry explanation here. Basically, Buffy Season 4 corresponds with Angel Season 1, such as you watch Buffy episode 3 (61) and *then* Angel episode 3 (62) to watch the crossover episodes in proper order. http://josswhedon.blogspot.com/2012/04/buffy-and-angel-episode-viewing-order.html I should add that the Angel series has a darker vibe overall than Buffy. Not to say that it isn't good -- it certainly is -- but the tone is definitely darker. Still has humor, though

Angel is evil, Jenny is excluded from the group, Xander steps up in a big way, and Oz continues to be apparently perfect. Onwards we go into the back half of season 2! I agree with you that Willow's reaction to Xan-Delia isn't all about jealousy. Sure, that's a part of it, but I think it's also a realization that growing up can mean growing apart. Xander has been her best friend for years and he kept a big secret from her, even though their mutual dislike of Cordelia was one of the core parts of their friendship! (I LOVE that Xander is apparently the Treasurer of the We Hate Cordelia club.) Willow knows that Xander doesn't owe her romantic attraction, but it still hurts. And now for the breakup of Calendiles. 😭😭😭 I love how Giles sides with Buffy and supports her leadership, telling Jenny "She said to get out," even though it means his own love life is getting destroyed. Giles is the perfect father figure to Buffy, so supportive, and we see a lot of it this episode. (Sheesh Veggie I hope this hasn't sent you a notification every single time I accidentally pressed Enter, because I must have done that about ten times. Sorry!)
