Hi guys!! I hope you are all having a wonderful Christmas Day!

It's finally here! A story with a true Hufflepuff as our hero!  I bloomin' love all the... well... fantastic beasts that are in it! XD

I am afraid I forgot to use subtitles for this one, I don't think it is a big deal but... I am afraid I get Pickett's name wrong throughout (which sucks, because I BLOOMIN' LOVE HIM!!)!

This was so fascinating seeing the Wizarding World in another country, and seeing how the culture and time period can change how they act in so many different ways.

And... Newt is amazing!! :D

Merry Christmas, guys!! As always you will need your own copy of the movie to sync to, but I provide time codes and pop-ups to make this easy! Love you all!

Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them First Time Full Reaction!

Great reaction, Veggie! I knew you would like Newt (and his fantastic beasts). As one of those that've said a few times that I think it would be a good idea to wait with this reaction until after the books: I have to say that you explained it well! It makes sense for you to do it now, and also I don't think it will be a problem, really (if it was, a lot more people from the book club would've warned you against it, probably!).

H

yet another great reaction veggie, I can happily say that I've been a fan of yours for a year now!! have loved watching you step into the magical world of Harry Potter and lord of the rings. two amazing franchises and communities

Gohan

There is indeed, here is the link for the Ilvermony quiz :D http://wizardmore.com/ilvermorny-sorting/

Kat

Hi Kat! Is there an official quiz for Livermorny? I would love to do it! :D Love that the actor sees Newt as beng on the spectrum!! Looking forward to discussing that next time!

VEGGIE GAMER

Fun fact on that subject: I'm not a native english speaker, so when I heard the term for the first time I thought it was "No-Match" and I assumed the wizards were basically saying that the "normal people" dont fit/ match into their society😅 And I assumed it was a further way to show, that the American wizards are way more anti-muggle than the Brits🙈😅

Diego Zenhäusern

I could tell that there was a relation to the Phoenix because the thunderbird has similar physical characteristics despite the size and color differences.

Josh Z

It is fair though to think wizards around the world would have different names for muggles. For us Americans it would be harder cause we are so used to the term muggle just because we grew up hearing that term.

Kunzite Blossom

I adore Newt as the non-typical hero character. He is kind, empathetic, shy, all of these qualities are usually reserved for the hero’s best friend so it is nice to see them celebrated. Eddie Rednayne also said he sees Newt as being on the autism spectrum 😊 PS do you think you will do the quiz to find out your Ilvermorny house?

Kat

Queenie's Legilimency is more of an empathy thing. It's something she has to actively suppress rather than something she's doing on purpose. I understand that it seems rude, but she stops as soon as she is asked to. I think that's the very opposite of rude.

Tommy Ross

Yeah... we Americans were not a fan of "No-Maj" either. As soon as J.K. Rowling announced that's what she decided Americans called them, we were like "... we would never."

Tommy Ross

I really liked this first movie and our "main-quartet"! <3 But I have to admit, that I didn't even watch the third one (partly because they kinda lost me on the second one and partly because I personally don't particularly want to shovel any money to Rowling these days😕)

Diego Zenhäusern

A very belated Happy Christmas Veggie! I've only just been able to get to this now, but it's been wonderful to watch after returning from a very long time travelling. :) (Also Newt is adorable)

Rebecca May

I had the exact same reaction to seeing Johnny as Grindelwald! He's a wonderful actor but just not what this film needed.

Rebecca May

Absolutely love the fantastic beast movies, although they are very different from the Potter ones. Same universe though and that is what fascinates me the most about all the HP stories. Also I have to agree with @itsadancething: I really like Johnny Depp but after reading the HP books I imagined Grindelwald very differently. I actually find Mads Mikkelsen, who takes over in the third fantastic beasts movie, fits the role better (not that Johnny Depp didn’t do a good job). Btw: there is no book about the story from this movie, only the script to the movie that you can buy. However, you can buy the school book written by Newt Scamander. It is one of those three little spin-off’s, the other ones being «the Tales of Beedle the Bard» and «Quidditch Through the Ages» (I can only recommend 😉).

Newt is one of my favourites though, a lot of people don’t like this series and does get a bit messy but they did such a great job with Newt. I think Jacob was such a great character to add as well! It’s so nice because he’s like the anti-vernon and at first it seems like he would be rude and similar to Vernon but he’s the best, and it’s nice to see a muggle character that’s just up for everything lmao. Also sadly I think I saw that they won’t be finishing the fantastic beast series, there was supposed to be 5 but I think with everything going on and the Johnny depp thing the last movie didn’t do too well. Maybe the fact it’s not continuing is just a rumour but I don’t think it is. Maybe they’ll change their mind.

Loveinthehat

You will find out more about the views of Grindelwald in the Harry Potter books, something that's not at all covered in the movies.

Anders Ekren

One of my favorite lines in this movie is when Tina questions who would marry Jacob but then her own sister falls in love with him. Also, at the end when Madam President is talking and Newt is looking up, you see a bit of black stuff floating away. Remember that little detail for the next movie. P.S "Figget" is called Pickett (sometimes shortened to Pick)

Kunzite Blossom

I'm at the first break in the movie, but I just had to share this amazing fact with you! Eddie Redmayne who played Newt says he believes Newt is on the autism spectrum (undiagnosed because of the time) and a lot of people agree with him! Having worked with many children with autism, I can see it too. I just love the representation and how even though he may not be "neurotypical," he is still important and intelligent and so kind-hearted. He's such a wonderful person! Can't wait for more! EDIT: Just finished the reaction. Loved it! As always. For me, I struggled with the ending. I did not like Johnny Depp as Grindlewald. Don't get me wrong! I love Johnny Depp, but seeing him took me out of the movie. All of the other extremely famous names in the movie I saw as their character. But when Grindlewald appeared, I went, "oh look, it's Johnny Depp." I personally don't think he was right for the role, especially considering he looks NOTHING like the actor who portrayed a young Grindlewald in Deathly Hallows. My own personal unpopular opinion though! So glad you like the movie Veggie!

itsanursething

So i think you called the little twig guy "figgit" but i always took its name as "pick-it" since he picks locks. You looked down and wrote some notes and missed out on a few seconds of cool stuffs a few times. Glad we're finally getting to these final few potter stories. :D Can't wait for the next 2!!!

Shiby23

Aww Jacob makes me cry too ☔ I don't think they explicitly say this in the film, but Frank is a thunderbird and can create storms just by flying. Thunderbirds are related to phoenixes. The rain created by Frank was laced with swooping evil venom, which is what obliviated all the people.

emmainkeri

Ah yes, the three famous wizarding schools: Ilvermorny, Hogwash and Pigfarts.

emmainkeri

Have you considered reading the Percy Jackson series which is another fantasy YA series in which most of the characters have dyslexia? Unfortunately both of the movies are pretty bad so you would be better off not reacting to them. There is an upcoming Disney+ series coming however.

Wayne Joy

The Hogwarts info, maybe wait for Veggie to read it in book 4

Nick Brønnum

react to MovieFlame's "Ilvermorny Origins Explained (American Hogwarts) • A Story By J.K. Rowling" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arZzy4ybop4

Nick Brønnum

This is set in the 1920s so wizarding laws were different towards muggles and magical beasts.

Ashley Morelock

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one! Always wondered why Newt hailed from Hufflepuff, he's too intelligent to be from that 'load of duffers' ;) Rewatched this the other week and its a lot of fun in the main, especially seeing Newt capturing his animals, and his wondrous zoo in his suitcase for them. It kind of sags with the Credence stuff, but otherwise its a solid new entry into this world outside and out of time of the Harry Potter era. Speaking of that era, in the Azkaban film, you can see Newt is at Hogwarts on the Marauders Map.

Saltire

Dougal, the Demiguise... Demiguie hair is what invisibility cloaks are made up of - and those are the one that are "not as good" as Harry s. Obscurials are fascinating (I think) - but scary! Imagine the power XD That could have been such powerful witches and wizard

Dara Jeeling

Merry Christmas Veggie! Thanks for this great gift, will keep me entertained at my parents house 👍

Jonas (Methanoutput)
