Hi guys! We are finally here!! So sorry it has taken so long to get back to Movie Reactions!  Today, we conclude the Hobbit series, and we do it in STYLE!! Loved this one and it went in a completely different way than I was expecting!

Just a couple of important notes! -

There is only ONE break in this!  Basically, there just simply wasn't a good time to do a second. Hope that is ok with you all!

Secondly - At one point around the hour mark the video will be muted for just a few seconds and a message will appear.  Don't pause when this happens, the reaction continues shortly after!  Basically I attempted a 'pause countdown' at a bad time. The break it's self is around a minute or so after this happens (I give you a proper countdown for it, don't worry XD).

I have loved this series.  Please let me know your favourite characters from this, as well as favourite moments, lines, etc.  Love you guys! This has been an epic journey (and back again).

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition First Time Full Reaction!

Hi Veggie, thank you for this :) I would love for you to watch Rings of Power, I am absolutely here for it because I enjoyed it a alot. Not Lotr as much, more than the Hobbit (no hate on ANY of those productions) sometimes they do what I want, sometimes they don´t, who cares, what all of them do is tell a beautiful story

- There's a deleted scene that didn't even make it into the extended edition that clears things up about Thranduil's motivations. The necklace of white gems that he wants back so badly actually belonged to his wife and Legolas's mother originally. He had given the gems to the dwarves to commission them to be made into a necklace, earrings and bracelets for her either just before she died or maybe in memory of her. Then, of course, he went to claim them back and the dwarves withheld them. When he arrived just after Smaug attacked Erebor he was there to attack Erebor and get the gems back. I love how much depth they gave Thranduil, even though they didn't quite explain ALL of why he was the way he was. They made him such a complex character - The five armies are more clear and distinct in the book and I won't spoil it. But here there's the men, elves, dwarves and then the two separate orc armies, Bolg's and Azog's, make up the five. - I was SO glad you recognized that Thorin had a valid point in the discussion with Bard. Usually people just jump straight to "Thorin's just being an arse." Yes, Thorin gave his word to share the wealth of the mountain but it was also a promise given under somewhat duress because they were desperate for food, blankets, clothes and weapons. So both he and Bard had valid arguments. There were items from Dale that Smaug had stolen and added to the hoard over the years between so Dale-men and Laketown men did have legitimate claim to some of the hoard

I always counted the orcs as one army and the eagles as the fifth...but I don't know either what the correct answer would be🤷‍♂️😅

I enjoyed watching this so much with you. I was needing a good cry haha.

Honestly, I’m not quite sure what the five armies are either 😂 To me the most logical explanation is an army for the humans, the dwarves and the elves. Then we have the army from the orcs that attacked first and last but not least the Gundabad-army. No idea though if that is right. This was actually my least favourit of all the lotr and Hobbit movies but I still enjoy it very much and I think it doesn’t deserve the hate it sometimes gets. Also I think it would be awesome if you checked out the new series «the Rings of Power» on Amazon Prime (it just came out this autumn). I know people have very different opinions about this. I think it is mostly the fans who know all the lore that don’t like it because obviously they had to move the timelines from middle earth a bit around and action wise it doesn’t have the huge battles like in lotr and the Hobbit (yet). But you obviously can’t do everything exactly like in the books and in my opinion they have done a great job in respecting the lore and setting up the story. I've enjoyed it very much! At the moment it is one season with ten episodes but more will come. Also the visuals are absolutely fantastic!

"they are looking shiny" - well they are elves... I want a reindeer to ride on as well... wanted it when the movie came out, want it now!

Hi Ashley! This week, I promise!! So sorry for the wait!!

I love the Hobbit - the book, I enjoy the movies BUT I am not pleased with the "fanservice" that has been done in the Hobbit films - mainly including Legolas - who is not in the book. I also do not really appreciate the mixing of the Simarillion into the Hobbit story. On it's own I love the Simarillion - ssince it gives you a lot of the background stories. I did not ejoy LotR s as much ( the film) since the books get mixed up a LOT. I hate that in the film we already know that Frodo is still alove, when the Mouth of Sauron is showing the Mithril armor to Gandalf and all the others. In the book we just know, that Bilbo is in the fangs of the Spider Which makes you more anxious reading the books. I still love the whole world that Tolkien invented. As with Harry Potter it's a great world Although one is more for the younger people (or people who stay young) As for the love story of Arwen and Strider - there is at eas one other in the Simarillion - Beren and Luthien - who were forefathers of Arwen Evenstar as said, the Simarillion gives a lot of back stories - about the wizards as well. For the Netflix Series - NOT enjoy the first season a lot I will give the second season a go and then decide. Maybe it's like it is with Game of thrones - it took me a while to really enjoy it

Update on next Potter post?

Thank you so much for this reaction, Veggie. <3 I saw this film at it's midnight premiere in New Zealand, in the very same theatre used for the premiere of Return of the King eleven years before... It's such an epic and sad and beautiful film, I must have cried through at least half of it. Such an emotional experience, and watching this took me right back there... I can't thank you enough. I do slightly prefer the story of the Lord of the Rings to the Hobbit, but in both cases (perhaps controversially) I enjoy the films more than the books, particularly when it comes to the Hobbit. The Hobbit films have so much more depth… Although I’ve always found it ironic that a book supposedly for children has a much darker ending. I know some people don’t like how much was added to the Hobbit, but most of these “additions” were still drawn from Tolkien’s other work, so were respectful of the source material. Even those not drawn from Tolkien – like Tauriel – worked beautifully, in my opinion. The exception being Alfrid... I understand having some comic relief, but he was so overused in this last film that it became ridiculous. The gems that Thranduil wanted were not mithril… They were the White Gems of Lasgalen, which were being fashioned into a necklace for Thranduil’s beloved wife. She died fighting in Gundabad, and when Thranduil went to retrieve the necklace from Thrain (so he would have a way to remember his wife), Thrain withheld it from him, claiming he had not been sufficiently paid. Thranduil is such a beautiful, complex and tragic character. I think his fury when Tauriel says “There is no love in you,” is because precisely the opposite is true. He feels love so deeply and keenly that it has destroyed him… The love he had for his wife has turned in upon itself, and consumed by grief and bitterness that has lasted thousands of years, he begins to lose sight of what really matters. There is a very brief deleted scene between Gandalf and Thranduil (left out of even the Extended Edition) that I think you would really appreciate. When it comes to Thorin’s dealings with Laketown, he may be right that his promise was made under duress, but that’s pretty seriously missing the point. The Thorin that the dwarves knew and loved would never have turned his back on these people, knowing so well himself the pain they’ve suffered (as Kili tried to tell him), and having more than enough treasure spare to help them. He is doing to the people of Laketown what he condemned Thranduil for doing to the dwarves all those years ago. I do think Thorin would have broken free from the dragon sickness of his own accord, but it certainly would have taken longer without Dwalin’s intervention. Finally, to your point about Bilbo remembering his adventures… The scene in Rivendell where he says “I meant to go back… Wander the paths of Mirkwood, visit Laketown, see the Lonely Mountain again. But age it seems has finally caught up with me…” Always makes me cry, because I think he meant to go and see where Thorin, Fili and Kili were buried before he settled in Rivendell. Sorry for the essay! As you can probably tell, I really love this film. Even if two out of my three favourite dwarves were killed. :’( Oh, and if Sebastian wasn’t the Lord of All Hedgehogs, HE IS NOW. :D

“This thing does not discriminate” HAHAHAHAHAH that had me dying 😂😂😂😭

Ridiculous conspiracy theory time: I just realized, when Gandalf and Legolas meet in this movie, it's implied they're good friends already. Seems like good ol' Grey Pilgrim has been grooming the sons and wards of the great leaders of Middle Earth for some time don't you think? Legolas in the Greenwood, Faramir in Gondor, Aragorn in Rivendell, who knows what he whispered to Eomer, when he rode to him for help... And in spite of that, Galadriel trusts him completely. What if his motives weren't so pure afterall, at least until he died in Fellowship? Could Gandalf the Grey be playing the long game power-wise? Spooky...

Simon Bank

My favorite Book was lord of the rings by a mile, just because its more mature. The hobbit is written as a childrens tale. In regards to the movies however i like the hobbit more... maybe because i love dwarfs so much (playing one in every game that has them in it)

Benjamin Hütz

I just love smaug... he is sooo well done in this and the last movie. I remember sitting in cinema watching the scene where he walks towards Bard and talking to him.... man i was so scared back then

Benjamin Hütz
