Animental Bestiary [Monster Thursday]

This week, looking at animentals! No more of those boring, mundane animals - these animals have the power of the elements in them! They are just like mundane animals... except better and from the Inner Planes. These creatures can be found in the Inner Planes, as well as the Material World where they hang out being weird and causing a ruckus in the ecosystem. They provide a bit of the exotic and unusual in the normal, mundane adventuring day and you can even provide a few of these as rewards for druids to wild shape into if they bring you cookies for the session!

Air Mole (1/8) Moles are really small (citation needed) and typically stick to the ground, but these moles have taken wing. They reside in thunderstorm clouds, devouring the electrical energy within them. While individually they aren't too dangerous, once you put them in a swarm, you could have a terror ball of blind lightning moles at your beck and call!

Fire Bird (CR 1/4) They aren't a phoenix, instead these small birds appear like cardinals if cardinals looked like they had flames for feathers. When they fly, they lose their beast-like form and become lines of fire scorching across the sky. The best part is that they can shoot forward with tremendous speed, setting objects alight as they fly pass them.

Hoar Fox (CR 1) These creatures actually appear in the Fiend Folio (1981) and were basically winter wolves. Not sure if they eventually became winter wolves, or there were already winter wolves and they just shoved these creatures in there as well. They had a very similar power where they could shoot a cone of cold that hit a single creature back then, but that seemed too close to the 5e winter wolf and so they got a different type of breath weapon where they coat the ground in ice.

Land Shark (CR 4) The reason I decided to make this collection of animentals from when we did our deep dive on the land shark. Ever book kept calling them land sharks, but they weren't truly sharks. These land sharks are and as dangerous as their water-tied cousins.

Magma Squirrel (CR 1/2) With all of these, I wanted to think of a way to combine the beast with the element I choose for them. The magma squirrel is like a flying squirrel, but for the ground! It 'glides' through the earth, leaving behind a trail of magma in its wake, and burns the feet of anyone that it crosses.

Mud Weasel (CR 1/4) I actually like weasels, but they seem to be one of the slipperiest creatures I could think of that would fit in nicely with the Plane of Ooze or the Plane of Mud. Pestilence, disease, poison, and more are all trademarks of this horrible plane, but weasels just want some love and to devour your family-size bag of chips by themself (true story).

Smoke Skunk (CR 1) A skunk is the perfect creature to find on the stinking and sulfurous Plane of Smoke. These creatures are smoke and unleash smoke, their stench cloud causes all to wretch and flee for the life of their olfactory senses.

Water Dog (CR 2) Our goodest boi is the water dog! These creatures are dog-like in appearance and from the Plane of Water where they run/swim around all day among the waves. Probably used as hunting dogs by the marid, they have a huge variety of uses and are truly a merman's best friend.

I really like this. Helps to make normal beasts something more unique or add some flair when traveling through the other realms.
