Monthly Update and Reward: Early Playtesting

Most of my month has been preparing a vertical slice of the game for mass consumption. If you aren't familiar with the game design term. It's a polished selection showing the ultimate goal of the project for other folks, often in the form of a playable demo. Vertical slices are a version of the game that is both more polished than anything else, but ironically not as polished as the final product. But it's often a lot of work in every aspect of the development as you try to make a version of your game that makes people talk. And indie games of all kind live and die on the talk.

But it does mean Protect the Sacred is now playable (albeit with supervision and likely with a lot of notes about balance I'll take back and process.)

This month I've have:
-Finished a 22 page outline for a Serial (2-3 session full adventure which the game measures itself by)
-Adjusted the function of STUNT DICE to press the feeling of being high risk, high reward and while making them feel more with the investment.
-Restructured my EXP system to better reflect the pacing of an adventure
-Added and refined the scene pacing mechanics to make magic and powers full like a dramatic escalation

Oh. Yeah. We've been working on designing the four page character sheet for when playtest start. This will be the first pages of the final game produced. And I've gotta say, we've really stepped up our graphic design game on the whole.

This is a wip of course, but we got something good going here. I want to have a full character sheet finished and ready for these playest and eventually the character creation playtest.

As for REWARDS

If you are interested in helping test Protect the Sacred and part of the huckleberry or strawberry tiers, please comment below! I look forward to playing with y'all. Raspberries will have to wait a bit longer. (Not that much though)

This months plans include;
-start writing the first set of chapters Protect the Sacred. (probably Approaches)
-finish production work on the playtest/vertical slice
-run playtest and then analyze feedback.

Comments

I'd be down to playtest! I'm very interested in writing some anticolonialist pulp adventure stuff myself, maybe play as one of my characters from it.
