The Carceri Bestiary [Monster Thursday]

Sometimes I'm a prisoner to love... sometimes, I'm a prisoner to planescape.... - Stephen

This week, I decided to revisit Carceri from my previous look at them on the planes series (link for those who wish to read about it).

Despite how much I wish to write about the planes, and how much I can squeeze into a post, there is always something that doesn't get properly looked at or given enough room to show off how great it actually is. Carceri is full of all sorts of strange beasts, monsters, and people who have adapted to their new prison-home... or at least, they've tried.

From the gautiere who were betrayed by their god, who they then imprisoned, to the gehreleth who are the demons specific to this plane, there are a lot of strange creatures on here. I decided to just create the gautiere, the three different gehreleth, and to create one of the titans that a party might run into doing their big damn hero stuff.

Gautiere - Horrifying, their claws drip with acid, these creatures stand at 7 feet tall and wield brutal weapons. They were once a kind and soft race before they were caught in Carceri. Now they travel in small packs and hunt through Minethys, killing others so that they may survive. Image of Gautiere

Gehreleth - There are three different gehreleth, from the lowly faratsu to the noble class of shator. They are powerful creatures, but they have to be in order to survive this plane. The lowest of their kinds, the faratsu, are as strong as an ice devil and nalfeshnee - which makes them pretty damn powerful. They only get stronger from there, and any adventurer foolish enough to think they can 1v1 them might want to reconsider that.

After the faratsu are the horrible and stinky magnificence of kelubar. These creatures as are as powerful as they are hideous to behold. This is the first gehreleth that probably won't kill you immediately, though that's only because they enjoy torture.

The last group of gehreleth are the shator, the nobility of Carceri. They are as powerful as a balor or pit fiend, and love using their power over others. They also like writing books on anarchy and the oppressed overthrowing rules and  law, so that's nice too.

Cronus, Titan of the Harvest - I couldn't give you a bunch of monsters on Carceri without showcasing one of the most powerful there. The Titans who reside here are not (yet) gods, but they are impressively powerful and fearsome creatures. This also gives me a chance to play around with the new Mythic actions released in Mythic Odyssey of Theros - these actions allow you to turn a normal fight into a legendary struggle against the mightiest creatures in the planes. It's not for the faint of heart, but I believe in you.

Hope you enjoy this strange collection of monsters, and if you have something you liked created or a specific bestiary made, let me know!
