A Thank You and the Bag of Baubles
Added 2020-04-02 21:00:52 +0000 UTCBefore I introduce the latest cursed magic item for your enjoyment, I wanted to take a second and thank everyone for their support during these difficult times. I know that every penny counts now more than ever and your willingness to contribute to our little project means a great deal to both myself and Stephen. More importantly, it helped get me into a different, healthier mindset.
I‘ve been pushing to do a Patreon membership drive to try and boost our numbers, both in the number of patrons and dollars. We’ve been around approximately a year now and it seemed like the right time. I truly believe we offer a great product and if people gave it a look, they would jump on board. So when the world descended into its current state, I’ll admit I was frustrated. I’d spent a fair amount of time and effort into putting the membership drive together and now it was going to be mothballed. “What a waste,” I thought, “but now is not the time to be asking people for money.“
When we ended the month we were lucky enough to have gained new patrons, it dawned on me that I was looking at this entire situation completely backward. Instead of looking for support, we should be supporting other Patreon creators. This meant increasing the dollar amount for people we currently support and becoming patrons of those creators I always said I should support but just never got around to it. Sure, it’s not a ton of money, but every little bit helps, especially right now. So this month, instead of looking for supporters, I’m going to be on the lookout for those that I can support.
On to the fun stuff
The Bag of Baubles is a minor yet fun cursed item that can be thrown into any campaign. It originally had 12 potential baubles that could have been drawn, but after time I reduced it down to 6. I’d eventually like to get the number back up to 8, but only if I can think of 8 really good options.
The bag itself isn’t really cursed, nor does it put a curse upon the user. What makes this item a cursed item is the potential to pull a bauble that will have a negative effect on you or your party. As with all good cursed items, there is also the potential to pull an orb that will be extremely useful, which is the ‘hook’ with cursed items. The chance of a beneficial outcome when using such an item should be equal or greater to the chance of a negative one. AD&D was all about cursed items where the negatives outweighed the positives...and when I say negatives, I mean the item killed you outright and only a Wish spell could bring you back.
So enjoy, and if you think of a cool bauble for the bag, let me know!
