Magical Girl Gunslinger Chapter 36 - Arcadia Spire
Added 2024-10-21 18:38:10 +0000 UTCThis delay brought to you by my poor physical health (I got sick, again) and me trying to finish the chapter but it just getting longer and longer. In the end, it was getting so long I decided to stop trying to get to the end point and cut it off where it was so I could have a chapter out to you all sooner.
Now, for those of you who haven't been keeping up, I went through and edited all of the story. Some of these edits are minor, such as making dialogue more consistent, but the occasional section was changed or added to. For those not wanting to reread the entire story for changes, check out these patch notes which include the most major edits:
Patch Notes
Entire Story:
Minor dialogue changes.
Minor grammar changes.
Minor sentences added/deleted.
Fixed ammo and point counts
Rarities now number only 5, as those are the only known ones: Common, Rare, Masterwork, Arcane, Legendary, Mythic.
The personal shield a Guardian has in their Astral Shift has been renamed from "Aura" to "Astral Barrier," which is often just shortened to just "Barrier." Later uses of Aura will be fixed as the edited chapters are posted.
There was some rewording about the explanation for Darks, mostly to help emphasize courage as part of what they represent.
Chapter 02
Changed the final Emergency Alert notice. Old version was:
Reality Distortion: Moderate
Localized Dream Level: Restless
New version is:
Miasma Quality: 150
Miasma Density: Extreme
Chapter 5
I forgot to explain that Vault/Grimoire rarities are locked behind major milestones. So at level 1-99, Guardians only can buy tier one (aka common rarity) things. At 100 they unlock the next tier, 200 the one after that, and etc. Secondly, I also had more tiers/rarities shown than there should have been. Seeing as the highest level Guardians are only in the 500s, there should only be six known rarities. That has been fixed, so the current rarities are now Common, Rare, Masterwork, Arcane, Legendary, Mythic.
Chapter 19
Added a mention by Selene saying that the Zenith and Earth classify Anathema in two different ways. While the Earth classification would take too long to explain, she does explain the Zenith one of Common/Elite/Rare/Aberrant, which was already previously in the story.
Added to Mai's reasoning to return without spending her Stat Points or waiting to regain mana to summon Selene as a scout. Mai now realizes that if she waited, it would take a long enough time that there would be a risk of Officer Oh or O'Malley heading out to rescue her. As her trip was supposed to be relative quick, they never planned for how long she was going to be gone. If she waited for her mana, there would be a decent chance of one of them going out to rescue her as they grew concerned with her status. As for not spending her Stat Points, both Mai and Selene agree it would stunt her long term growth as she'd have to put lots of points into mana and regeneration. As there should be no risk with Mai returning, it doesn't make sense to spend the points for a safety net she shouldn't need.
Chapter 22
Added a sentence mentioning anti-air Anathema being the reason why a Strike Team couldn't just paradrop onto the shielding station and reactivate it.
Error's mana regeneration was incorrect, it is now correct at nearly fifty-nine mana regeneration per second.
Chapter 24
Mai states she spent all her points buying thing in preparation, but I did my math wrong and missed 20 points. She has now spent it on buying an enhanced shirt and leggings to go underneath her other enhanced clothes and provide her the slightest bit more protection.
The amount of ammunition Mai has for her Umbra changed slightly due to a miscount earlier in the story. She now has more filled magazines, so during a later part of the battle, it was emphasized she was going very quickly through her ammo in an attempt to stem the Anathema tide.
Additions near the end to show Mai's building pain/exhaustion/shock
Chapter 25
Everglaive's Glade of Glaives was incorrectly referred to as both a Finale-class spell and her Signature magic. It is now properly referred to as a Finale-class spell in both instances.
Everglaive previously thought she had hit her first mana regeneration penalty for using so much mana in a short period of time, but she's actually just under it, so that bit was adjusted.
Error Machina's special ritual room was originally estimated at costing over 50,000 points. It has now been changed to over 100,000.
Chapter 32
Added some sentences about Familiars being the primary entity responsible for looking after a Guardian’s well-being when it came to personal matters instead of other Guardian healers.
Comments
Just reread the whole series again, and I love it soooo much! The bits and hints of backstory, the world and public setting that is given directly, and the little details for everything slipped in, it's all so beautifully done and enticing! If this gets more chapters put out, I will gladly read them all!!!

2025-03-01 18:30:48 +0000 UTCThanks for the new chapter! I will have to re-read the entire thing at some point, not only to see the changes, but also because I need a refresher on all things magical. Reading this chapter, I've sort of realized I only have a vague idea on how things work anymore. It's been a while. 😅
