Using Grignards to make Tertiary Alcohols

Using Grignards to make Tertiary Alcohols

I agree. As long as you get over the initial formation step with the magnesium metal, grignards are very robust and can tolerate all kinds of terrible conditions. They're wonderful in that regard and thus a staple of organic synthesis. You can be terribly sloppy and still get your product. So you can trade laziness/sloppiness with scale and still get the amount you want.

I have been going chemplayer style and seeing how sloppy I can get with these, I am shocked at how lazy you can get if you don't mind poor yields.

I don't know why I find this so interesting :) But I DO know why I couldn't do stuff like this. I have no patience :) I applaud all scientists that have the patience to go through this kind of thing.
