Both Truham and Higgs are “grammar schools”, which have some selectivity as they require an entrance exam to get in, but they’re state-funded so there are no fees. So they’re similar to US private schools in that they might be harder difficult to get in academically than a public school, but they are free instead of ungodly expensive. Pretty sure the only character who is supposed to be that type of rich is Harry. -also a dumb American, but I’ve read the books and done some googling to understand what’s going on.
