Based on their engagement to and commentary around certain characters and plots from Thrones, I doubt they would actually get into HotD. The appeal of HotD isn’t really what they seemed to like about GoT, and the characters they enjoy aren’t the kind of characters they’ll find in that show IMO.

guys i completely understand where you’re coming from. i binged in 2017 seasons 1-7 in like a week lol. since then, before s8, i read all the books and listened to tons of podcasts. i realized that after s3/s4, the quality took a major downfall. and when s8 finally came out, i was so sad and disappointed. i tried to forget about the show for a year or two and just reread the books and kept listening to podcasts and talking to other book fans. i will say that house of the dragon, so far, is much better. they made some changes from the source material of course but the changes aren’t bad. since the main series isn’t finished, we don’t know for sure how much the ending was changed in GoT, but i bet it was changed a LOT. they cut out plotlines and like y’all were saying the characters are UNRECOGNIZABLE. but yeah i guess my point is as a big fan, this disappointed me immeasurably as well, but book material and house of the dragon picked me up! HOTD has different writers as well thank god.

You guys have every right to your own feelings and opinions. I agree that the writers destroyed the last season and the way they forced Dany to become a tyrant so quickly was disorienting. HOWEVER I don’t see how you can disagree with what the writers turned her and Greyworm into and AT THE SAME TIME say that the actions those characters took were justifiable. Which is it? The thing is, even if we don’t like what the writers “made” her do, she’s not a real person who’s been poorly portrayed in media. She’s a fictional character that exists only how she is written, in this case by the writers of the show. And the writers did in fact write her story to end with her snapping and going “mad queen.” I think the idea was similar to the idea of all the Targaryens having a mad “fire and blood gene” (my explanation) that could be activated or not, and that Dany got pushed too far and activated the gene, but her getting triggered can’t justify what she did. The war was over, the city surrendered. There was no need to continue burning every civilian alive, innocent people who likely had no idea of the politics happening between the lords of Westeros. The Dany we knew prior to season 7 wouldn’t have gone that far, but we ended up getting a different version of Dany in the end, and that’s the “Dany” we’re left to judge.

I think there was some cognitive dissonance happening for them. Like you said, the transition was too fast. Somehow agreeing with her character’s actions while at the same time saying they didn’t like what the writers did with her story is difficult to reconcile. Maybe having a bunch of people in the comments “attacking” their favorite character BEFORE she massacred an entire city of civilians put them on the defensive in advance, as opposed to most people who watched it unfold without all the outside input from other viewers.

The reason we all talk about Dany more the Cearsi is because of what Mair said the writing. They butchered Dany’s character in the writing. Cearsi should have died by fire, she is horrible and there is no defense for her. Dany should have been better but was written to be a gotcha in the end. And now that this is done my issues since I'm not spoiling anything. The series is called A Song of Ice and Fire. Jon is Ice, from the Starks, and fire, from the Targarians. Every religion had a prophecy of the prince who was promised and many other names. And his name seemed like a huge reveal, sorry for the spoiler there. But then it meant literally nothing. Dany wasn't a horrible person but the showrunners didn't care about the character and wanted her to be like the mad king so after the city surrendered she continued to kill innocents. Warriors threw down their swords, and yes they “chose” their side. But most low level people don't know all the horrible things cearsi did, they just know they grew up here and are being conquered. They weren't bad people. And when they knew they lost they said we give up. I personally believe Dany would have focused on her enemies and not just kill random people for no reason. Arya sadly didn't mean much in the end. Brandon also could have had a much more interesting ending, but him as the king was meh. And slight annoyance. Sansa decided to not be part of the “7” kingdoms, but yet voted on the king??? Why does she get a vote if she is no longer part of the united kingdoms? If you notice she stood to hail bran as the king. Just poor writing again. I liked the show as a whole. I just dislike that they rushed the ending and gave up on character arcs.

There are spin off shows which is why they ended it with Arya leaving and Jon leaving the nights watch to go live with the wildlings. Snow Jon’s project is in pre production. On YouTube there are inside the episode for each episode. Where the writes explain why they wrote it that way. It gives more insight The writers talk about Drogon taking Dani to Volantis. That’s where all the red priestess and priest are. Rumors she will be revived and in the Snow sequel are on the internet. Also They released clips and photos of scenes that were cut from this show and one showed her with a baby bump. Sansa played the game of thrones and won. She could not allow Jon to return because then he would be king and not her. She agreed to the Night Watch so he could never take her place. She told his secret to Tyrion so that Dani would be destroyed. She manipulated what she knew about Jon to get him out of the North so she could be Queen. She brought Little finger to Winterfell then had him killed so the Nights of the Vale would become her personal army. She was taught by Cersei and Littlefinger how to play. She won the game. The writing was atrocious and I’m glad it ruined the careers of the writers.

If you look at the scene when Drogon takes her body you will see the fire that melted the throne and Dany's blood on the floor next to Jon. So, in the end, Jon chose fire and blood, his Targaryen words, to save the world from Daenerys. The Iron Throne was made by dragon fire with the first Aegon Targaryen and it was ended by dragon fire with the sixth and last Aegon Targaryen. Poetry.

Episode 5 where she burned everyone was too much. However, that is not something she would have done so, I just disregard the entire thing...the writing. It just became; entire show ruined. I don't understand why death was what everyone went to for Dany. All those that knew her knew she wasn't evil or mad (according to the writing of previous seasons) none of them tried to pin her down and talk sense to her!? Varys? Tyrion? Jon? No? Just kill her? So all they know is her coming with fire and blood. And yes bad writing for us into this situation. They could have done a way better drop showing her downfall than this. Arya murdered all the Frey fighting men who all had a part in killing her family. It's bad but that doesn't compare. The only reason Cersei and Jamie died underground is because there was supposed to be an escape that Tyrion told Jamie about but it was blocked by rocks already when they got there. I also hate this episode (for different reasons though). I don’t like that Jon was sent to the wall even though technically that’s where he wanted to be, I would’ve preferred it was his choice. I HATE that Bran became king. I don’t like Arya leaving either. In fact, the only things I liked about this episode were the cinematography, the music, Dany’s death and Sansa becoming queen in the north.
