I'm surprised you found this season to be weak so far, I found this season and in particular this episode to be the best of the entire series! Orpheus was brought up in season 1 and there were hints laid out all season long about what would happen...plus the reason why Destruction left was said several times...he didn't want to be the cause of humanity's destruction and death, so he left so he didn't have to be responsible for the harm. I think perhaps you falling asleep or being tired during the reactions is making you not pay attention to what is being said. This series isn't about big battles or crazy twists, the show is about Morpheus and his journey learning how to love and be loved, and how to change into a better being. This episode was the climax of that change...every episode thus far has shown Morpheus put himself and the rules above people, but with his brother's advice to do things out of love, Morpheus finally put himself last...he ended Orpheus' suffering regardless of the potential consequences it could bring to him simply because he loved his son. This was the purest expressionof love that Morpheushas ever shown in his entire existence. This is the moment that Morpheus solidified his change into a less selfish and duty bound being, and more into a benevolent and loving being that puts others first.
