In the books, Daenerys is 13, I think they aged her up to 16 or 17 for the show. Even the Stark kids are aged up in the show. Arya is only 9 in the first book, Sansa is only 11 in the first book, and Bran is only 7 in the first book. Robb and Jon are, I think, 14 in the first book as well. So they aged all of them up by 2-3 years.
