Clearing up some confusion about my april's fool video

I have some patrons expressing displeasure about me charging for the april's fools video about making a platinum electrode. It was a mistake to charge it and I completely agree that you shouldn't be paying for a joke. Thus the video about extracting ether and heptane from starter fluid was given as a free video and not charged to patreon.

I deeply regret the april fools joke and won't be doing that again. My apologies.

I thought it was pretty funny. I can understand why people may have been upset but don't let that stop you from making joke videos :)

People complained? That's a shame. I have been watching your content pretty much since you started, and only now realized you had a Patreon! Please.. goof away :-)

Fine with me. I liked the vid

I'm glad that you're doing well financially, but, the concern that society is focusing too much on the importance of special individuality has nothing to do with the concern to which NurdRage was responding. Recanting an apology is generally perceived by society as quite the "dick move". Given that, 0.8 bitcoins is a bit of an insulting offer. One's own morals are worth a touch more than that, I think. Quite a few of his grown-up fans are more than happy to suffer the snowflakes. I'm happy to see everyone who is interested in chemistry, even if they can't contribute a dime.

I must confess. He got me too. I mark that down as "well played" in my book. That said, I could still see this guy seriously doing something like that. That's why it worked on me. If I bought a fake platinum electrode I would've been completely livid, and considered something like this at least for a moment.

Paul Grodt

Good on you to fix things like that, but I'm happy to fund you goofing around once in awhile. Please consider continuing to do April fools jokes any time you chance to come up with something that amuses you.

Don't take it too hard, the video was great!

I'll pay you 0.8BTC to recant the apology and tell the snowflakes to stuff it... That's more money than any of them will ever contribute. The snowflakes don't have anywhere near as much money as your grown-up fans.

I laughed my ass off at that one and consider it money well spent. Please keep the sense of humor going forward.

No worries. I watch for both the education and the nurd humor. You got me, though. Too knew to chemestry to know better. All can now get a chuckle at noob here :-)

I guess if a buck or so for a video is too much for a patron, maybe that person shouldn't be a patron. There seems to be so little to laugh at today (without being politically correct, when there is something that amuses you), that video made me smile. Keep up the good work whether it's on April 1 or some other day.

No harm done

In my opinion the April fools contained some valuable information: all household items can be used for chemistry. Maybe a platinum coin is a bit over the top (which is why it fits april fools) but other types of metal coins are fair game. I liked the video and don't mind a charge for it. PS. Like the other people are saying, stop taking comments too seriously and assume the silent patrons support your every move.

I'm with these guys, I don't mind shelling out a little extra for a good laugh on April fools day; as I'm sure you'll put the proceeds from that easy to make video into a more difficult to make video.

Don't sweat every comment. P.S. suggest you do a video about "slime" (white glue and borax solution) Kids are nuts for it. And, I haven't seen any real investigation of the underlying chemistry. You could pick up some new subscribers and it would be a walk in the park for you.

gotcha, i'll do that then. April fools jokes will be free videos. :)

NurdRage

Noooo.... don't stop doing April fools jokes all because of a simple mixup. Even my wife, an organic chemist, laughed at that one!

Brian Nietfeld

You definitely should do April Fool's videos. This one was very well done, appearing totally serious and convincing right up to the reveal at the end. To me, anyway. Some people disagree with being charged for things like this, OK, so don't do that. But if you want to do an April Fool's joke, go right ahead.

It's all good.
