Heartwarming episode! Made me think of my old English teacher who blew our minds showing us Roger and Me. He was legitimately cool and truly made me appreciate writing and film. He always had a critical bent without being a cheesy stereotype. We did so much fun stuff in his classes - watched apocalypse now to complement heart of darkness, he had us read a bunch of the Orwell essays featured on past episodes, and I read Vonnegut and catch 22 for independent studies, which he encouraged. I ran into him after I graduated and bowling for columbine was in theatres, he was so pumped in anticipation for it

are we getting a The Santa Clause episode this year?

Alex Moore

Just watched the Charlie Rose interview and it really was Moore at his best. It never stops amazing me how credulous media types were. Rose is so uncritical. Reminded me why Moore has my undying affection

I recently listened to all of the oldest Michael Moore episodes of this show (I’m going through a breakup and had to temporarily move back in with my parents, what else are you going to do) and you guys seemed to really buy in to the “Michael Moore is harassing the working class employees of these companies” argument quite consistently. So Hah Got you Now apologise

Talking on the bravery of Moore going out and publicly calling out the Iraq war. As you fellas were struggling for mainstream troophaters, I recall Janeane Garofalo going on some (CNN?) broadcast in opposition to the war. Deffo laugh or cry moment. It was the first account I recall on that idiotic does one or does one not support the troops pseudo debate.

As someone who can generally be called a documentary filmmaker myself (who even modeled my practice in part by Bowling’s extremely high shooting ratios), I can attest that it’s honestly hard for it not to be like the way Crumb put it at the start at the Zwigoff documentary: You need to work nonlinearly to some degree to make it work. And while you can argue that a lot of Moore’s faults lie in fighting this impulse, I also think Penn Jillett was onto something in his Michael Moore Hates America monologue too. You can even argue that him becoming increasingly “polemicist” is in part due to a didactic role we almost societally projected onto him. (Sorry for the rambling; I just had a route canal, and am a little delirious as a consequence)
